I bought a few extra decapping pins, because I have a Lee Universal Decapping Die that I use for each pistol caliber I load on the Loadmaster progressive press. See my review on the Universal Decapping Die to see how it improves the priming system and thus the overall press reliability. It's true that when the collet nut on top is adjusted properly, the decapping pin will push out even crimped military primers, but will still slip upward to avoid breaking the decapping pin if it hits an obstruction on the down stroke. That's a great feature. However, if the flash hole is undersized (I had a bunch of .223 foreign military brass like that) or if the primer has been perforated, the decapping pin can punch down but then be captured and the tip of the decapping pin can be pulled out of the body of the decapping pin. They're two pieces that are pressed together, and while the assembly is very strong in the pushing direction, the small tip will pull out of the body with very little force. It'd be a lot better if the entire decapping pin was made from one piece or the small tip was welded into the body, but either would increase the price quite a bit to cover a problem that rarely occurs. Overall, it's not worth knocking off a star over this minor issue.

As I have a progressive press the slop and wiggle makes things not so exact. If the 223 brass is coming up it wil catch on the square surface on the bottom of this rod. I took a dremil to it and gave it a nice tapered round surface and now it works great. I use if to knock the corn media out of the flash hole before loading brass.

I bought spares to use in the Lee universal depriming and decapping die. The one that came with the die is still in service after 3,000+ rounds of various calibers. Based on the previous statement, this is a bargain.

20 plus years and thousands of cases decapped; I just snapped the pin. I'll order just one. At a 20 year breakage point I probably won't be around to need another. Love Lee products!

I purchased this die and it worked just great for 400-500 cases. Then I was depriming .223 & 5.56 and bent the point on the deprimer. I may have used it incorrectly but followed instructions like always with Lee products. So now I'm order 3 or 4 pins--just to be safe. Other than this minor problem all of my reloading gear is Lee and love it.

I have used Lee dies to decap, size, and load thousands of rounds without a problem, including tough crimped primers on military 30.06, 5.56 and some 9mm and .40 S&W that were crimped. I finally broke a pin on a batch of crimped 9mm that I bought. I was mystified why this happened until I noticed that the 9mm case had a Berdan primer. Ow!

Pin snapped on the first brass (06 military) right out of the box. Let's see how Lee reacts...Live in a rural area, not close to post office - not inclined to send in parts for replacement, very inconvenient.Keep a couple of spares if you going to use this die.

Bought a new set of 9mm ...

Bought a new set of 9mm dies to reload for my new Glock 19,inc. Lee factory crimp die, reloaded app. 2000 rounds. When de-capping pin broke I had a hard time getting the collet loosened up to remove the pin , maybe we should loosen up occasionally and re-oil or something??

Broke the pin after ...

Broke the pin after around 200 rounds and this is the first time I've used a universal decapper. Leave it to Lee products. I was thinking, "WHY did I purchase a Lee?" I've had a lot of problems with their equipment. RCBS is the only product I'll purchase in the future and I'll slowly get rid of my turret press for RCBS.
