The Forster die locking ring features an easy to use cross bolt that connects the two ends of the ring instead of a traditional screw style design that tightens directly into the threads of the die. This results in a more precise connection of the locking ring threads to the die threads and a more reliable alignment with no canting and no damage to the die threads. Tightening or loosening the cross bolt requires only a screwdriver. Fits all standard 7/8" x 14 dies from most manufacturers.

They work great on my RCBS dies. Lock them down and they won't move. No need to damage the threads with the factory lock nut anymore.

The Forster locking ring ...

The Forster locking ring is a must-have if you own the Co-Ax reloading press. Lock rings from other manufacturers are not wide enough to be held in place by the press' lock-down screw.The lock rings I recently purchased now come equipped with an Allen Screw. These rings are also made of aluminum, but appear to be well made.

These are marginally better than other rings, such as RCBS. I love RCBS but on this one, Hornady rings surpass everything. The design of these things is weak. They don't take a wrench and worse the screw head is, as other writers have alluded, flat out goofy.

I have a Forster Co-Ax Press and use these lock rings exclusively on all my dies. Whether Redding, RCBS, or Forster dies. These lock rings just work perfectly with the press and don't damage the dies. Good stuff!

I recently order two of these rings. One of them was of no use as received. The cut in the ring that the screw compresses, was not completely through the ring. I had to use a hack saw to complete the cut. Just an extra little hassle that you shouldn't have to do if the quality control folks were doing their job.

I like any die lock ring that has a cross bolt locking system, which prevents damage to die threads. I have upgraded a number of Redding and RCBS dies with these rings. I had one screw break, and Forster sent me a replacement ring. However, I prefer Hornady rings because they have wrench flats.

I use several different types of presses, and prefer different locking ring styles for each.For the Forster Co-Ax press, the idea is for the ring to stay locked tightly to the die, so you can take it in & out without changing adjustments. I join with the other reviewers in that I don't like the slotted or Phillips screw on these rings. Found a simple, excellent answer. For about 25 cents per ring, I upgraded the screw! Your local well-stocked hardware store should carry "Socket Head Cap Screws", which take an Allen wrench. I found them in stainless for only 25 cents, would have been less if I wanted alloy steel.Size you need is 6-32 x 5/8" long. Tested and it works great. For the Dillons (and RCBS with Lock-N-Load bushing, plus any sort of interchangeable tool head press), the idea is to semi-permanently lock the die down to a solid surface, and NOT to move it in & out. For this, the simple and very inexpensive Dillon slimline hex ring with their wrench is ideal -- it even works in the tight spaces of progressive and turret presses. I love Redding dies, but their lock rings are the least useful of all. Really don't like any lock ring like RCBS or Redding that expect you to jam a tiny screw against the die threads. Haven't tried Lyman to see if it fits the slot in the Co-Ax press -- has anyone? I just found a small stash of the old 1980s RCBS split-lock rings, they have Allen bolts and work fine in the Forster Co-Ax.
