Depriming range brass

I pick up a lot of range brass including 9mm Luger, 9mm Makarov, .38 Super, .40S&W and 10mm Auto but don't own any guns of these calibers so I wanted to clean and trade/resell the brass. I needed to deprime the brass, clean the primer pockets and polish the brass so I bought this extra shellholder for my Lee press. It works very well with my Lee universal depriming die to deprime all of the above brass. I can't address the concerns some people have for the relative lack of case support and stability during reloading as I don't reload these calibers but for my depriming needs it works very well.

All of lee's bullet seats are great, though I don't really recommend anything else they make. These are much cheaper and work just as well!

I concur with previous reviewers, Jack D. and Dan, in that the Lee #19 has too much slop for 9mm. This results in movement of the brass that can cause problems with priming as well as the brass moving into the die properly. The Lee #19 doesn't always keep the brass centered, and that is the problem. I replaced my #19 Lee shellholder with a Hornady #8, and it works well. The Hornady shellholder visibly gives more support to the 9mm brass, as in circa half of the circumference as opposed to zero for the Lee. The Lee shellholder should be fine for 9mm in single stage presses, but in turrets, or progressives, movement can and does occur. Of course, the Lee will also be fine for .40 or 10mm in any press.Don't forget to re-adjust your bell/flare, if you're switching, because these shellholders are not the same height.Not sure how to rate the product. I'll give it a 'five star', as it is dandy for 10mm/.40. It's just mislabeled as being suitable for 9mm.

This shell holder was ...

This shell holder was included in my 9mm carbide die set. It works OK when sizing and seating, but it holds cases so loosely that case mouths constantly hit the edge of the expanding plug during expanding/powder charging. At best this results in an annoying click as the case slips off the edge into the die. At worst, the case mouth is damaged. I replaced this holder with an RCBS. No more clicking.

I got this in with my Lee dies. I found I didn't like the wobble due to this shellholder being designed to accommodate the larger .40/10mm as well. Will be trying Hornady's slightly more expensive 9mm shellholder.
