This trigger is easy to install but requires adjustment to the safty toggle in order to have it (the safety) work. This is a little difficult but can be done with a steady hand and a dremel drill. I was about ready to get rid of my 30-06 ruger M77 MKII but now, with a float kit and a new trigger this is the best shooting gun I have ever fired. I will never get rid of this gun. Timney made all the difference. I highly recommend this trigger.

The sear is awesome. If ...

The sear is awesome. If you want to have the perfect trigger for hunting and dont have a need for all the adjustments and make everything ultra simple I recommend to simply install the sear only and leave the factory trigger and spring in place. The trigger and spring are there only to allow adjustability. This is the best way to go. It will require very, very, very minor sanding of the factory trigger safety tang. My trigger is set at 2.7 pounds now and it has made all the difference. The trigger and spring went in the trash. Sear is all you need.Takes about 10 minutes to install from removing the action to putting it back on.

I installed this trigger in my Hawkeye African 375 Ruger to replace the original LC6 trigger. Even though the factory trigger was acceptable after some tuning, it still was not perfect. The Timney was easy to install with the use of a Dremel for rough fitting and file to finish. I also needed to make some clearance room in the trigger area of my HS Precision stock for the larger trigger. It breaks clean with zero creep and the over travel adjustment is very nice to have also.

I do gun repair and accurizing as a business. I've done trigger work on factory triggers, installed other brands of triggers that the customer wanted. I always recommend the Timney trigger to my friends, family and customers and prefer Timney on all my firearms. I installed them on most makes and models but most have been Ruger rifles. They turn a Ruger rifle into a definite 'KEEPER' with only a bit of work. Even for the first time. Just carefully follow the easy instructions or call Timney. They are very helpful if you have a question or problem.

Read several positive reviews on MidwayUSA and other sites and would have to agree with them all, this is a great trigger and worth the money. I could not imagine the difference this made from the old factory trigger. Very crisp, clean, and light pull. Did require a fair amount of filing to get the safety to clear, but pretty easy to do with a Dremel and a fine file.

This trigger works on new Hawkeye's as well. I recommend you file the trigger rather than the safety, so that you can easily switch back to your factory trigger without replacing the safety. Overtravel was preset exactly out of the box. Trigger is the best I've ever felt.

Not sure why some prefer to just install the sear. The Timney trigger and sear are a GREAT package. With just a bit of patience to adjust the safety (just check about every other review for instructions) went from the factory trigger with irritating creep and a rough break to a crisp 2 3/4 pull that tightened an already good group and makes my M77 MKII an absolute dream to shoot. Without a doubt the best hundred bucks +/- you can spend on your Ruger. I guarantee you'll be glad you did.

Like many of the other reviewers I was a little concerned about being able to install the trigger myself. But installation is actually very simple. Just take your time filing the safety lug to fit (and check the fit frequently as you file) and you shouldn't have a problem. This trigger turned a very good shooting Ruger M77 MKII .223 into a great shooting rifle (0.5" 3-shot groups before, 0.3" groups after). I like the Timney triggers so much that I'm putting them in a Sako L579 and a Rem 788.

Definitely a huge improvement over the stock trigger.I'm only giving 4 stars, due to the following.I was not happy with the instructions, though. A few simple drawings would definitely help non-mechanical types. The instructions I got also specified that stock inletting would only be needed if adjustment of the over-travel screw was desired. For my rifle, that was not the case. Overall, it took about two hours of fitting (an hour filing, 30 minutes trying to figure out what was binding, and 30 minutes inletting and assembling), but I'm particular about these things. I wanted it to be perfect. When it comes to triggers, I don't take chances on slam fires or safeties that only sometimes work.

Read all the reviews here. They say it over and over different ways: This is a great trigger, especially for the money. It will require some really basic fitting that anyone with a magic marker, a dremmel to start with, and a file to finish with, can do in about 15 minutes. Having shot some really fine small bore (Anschutz and Winchester 52) and National Match High power guns for years, and hated the factory trigger on my Ruger, I bought this one on the reviews you see here. And I will never look back. This is a fine trigger. I'm about to buy my second, so I'm putting my money where my mouth is. If you are going to the trouble of replacing the sear, I recommend replacing the trigger and filing/dremmeling down the metal to allow the safety to work. I went very slow and careful and got it done in 15 about minutes. And I'm just a typical do-it-yourselfer. As for the fellas who say that they fear the adjustment screws on the replacement trigger in a hunting rifle, and suggest leaving the factory trigger in, I say they are wrong. Just put a drop of locktite or fingernail polish on the threads of the adjustment screws and you are in business. You are only getting a small portion of the benefit of the replacement and wonder how the metals will wear (dissimilar?). I put mine to use in the field, and bumped, slammed the bolt closed, and about everything else abusive and haven't had one misfire.Though I must say this next one will be the third in my hands. As this will be my second I must say that the very first once just plain didn't fit (the holes the drift pin goes into weren't made square to the trigger). Midway quickly sent another, and refunded me my $ I spent on return postage. It was less than a week from when I put the defective one in the mail until I got the replacement in my rifle. I'm happy, and I'm a pickey, spoiled, former match shooter!

One trigger, two new ...

One trigger, two new rifles, I put the new trigger, sear and spring into a 7mm and had a trigger pull of 6oz, way to light for me, I put the factory spring and sear back in and that gave me a 2lb 2oz pull, I had to make a minor adjustment on the over travel but very easy to do. after reading the reviews about only using the sear I decided to try that with another 77MK2 I have in 25-06 I used just the sear with factory trigger and spring and got a crisp 2lb 8oz trigger with it this took about 10 minutes total on the second rifle. This is a great product and I saved a lot by taking care of two miserable triggers with one kit.

Only reason no 5 , is ...

Only reason no 5 , is that the included instructions have no pictures or graphical guidelines. I had previously retrofitted my Ruger M77 Hawkeye African in .375 Ruger , with a Hogue overmolded stock with full bedding block . Everything worked great except when I re-installed the stock , I noted that with every cycle of the bolt, the firing pin was released, which would have resulted in a slamfire if loaded. Careful re-reading of step 15 made me realize that I needed to inlet the Hogue stock at the area around the overtravel screw mounting lug . I used a round small file and had to actually penetrate the rubber stock and aluminum bedding block slightly to make an adequate inlet . That fixed the problem. Also, I found that the overtravel adjustment was a little tricky, but doable. I wanted a 2.5 lb pull, so I used the original spring, as the instructions suggested. I have yet to fire, but expect a smooth operation, " like butta ".
