The Lyman Lead Dipper is the ideal tool for casters looking for an easy to use dipper for accurate pours. The cast iron head is shaped to achieve accurate pours helping to prevent air pockets in finished bullets. The long stem dipper can also be used for stirring molten lead alloys. Hardwood handle stays cool during use. Head holds from 1 to 1.5 ounces of molten alloy. Head and handle is threaded for both right and left handed casters.

Great size for pouring. I use on .45 cal double moulds and 20 Ga sabot moulds. Only drawbacks are that the head is a little large for my 10lb lead melting pot, and the cast head does seem to rust quickly if not coated with oil between casting sessions.

I have an older one and ...

I have an older one and one of the current production type. The new ones work fine but the older one with a slightly longer spout works even better.

Does exactly what it states, can easily hold 1,500+ grains of lead, wide mouth opening for easy fill, good pour spout. No issues. Handle doesn't heat up a lot. Great product.

I have already reviewed this product, but there have been some changes that make it even better---I would give it six stars if I could. Some of the reviewer comments (including mine) seem to be based on the older model. What's different?1) The little metal collar over the wooden handle is now pinned so it can't slide down 2) the head is tapped on both sides so it can be used by lefties 3) the spout taper matches the chamfer on mold sprue plates, allowing contact pouring with minimal leakage.This is THE ladle for me!

This is a superb dipper ...

This is a superb dipper with the spout nicely machined very concentrically to the orifice. The casting is of high quality. It's drilled and tapped to convert to left hand. Excellent wood handle. A much, much better dipper than the RCBS which I returned before buying this.

After a disappointing turn with the RCBS product, gave this a try (came with the Lyman Master Reloading Kit). Much, much better! I understand the old US made RCBS dippers were fine but this is the only good choice now.

Skip the Lee dipper ...

Skip the Lee dipper (which is just basically a fancy spoon) and get this. It's the real deal. The big reservoir holds enough lead to fill even a big six cavity mold and the spout makes precision pouring a snap. I never got the hang of bottom pouring but I can turn out perfect bullets with this product all day long. I'm sure the RCBS dipper is just as good but the Lyman is the one I own so it's the one I'm reviewing.As another reviewer stated, the little metal collar around the handle will probably pop loose and slide down the shaft, but you can fix that just by crimping it a little bit with pliers. I haven't had any problem with the head unscrewing but that's probably because I've had mine fro 20+ years and the threads are rusted together. I guess you could always dip the threads in salty water and let it seize itself up if yours has a problem coming loose :)

I use this dipper exclusively for casting lead ingots. The wide opening is great for filling the mold quickly, and the small opening for topping it off. It definitely has exceeded my expectations.
