The double-ended Savage Barrel Nut Wrench allows easy removal of the barrel nut on both early and late model Savage 10 and 110 series rifles. Will also fit the model 12 rifles. Features two 1/2" square drive holes for a swing bar or torque wrench. Made from 3/16" steel.

Note: Barrel nut wrench will work with both large shank and small shank Savage barrels.

The wrench is machined to ...

The wrench is machined to fit the barrel nut with very little or no play. This prevents wrench wobble and damage to the nut flutes during removal. The wrench also incorporates both round and square teeth; make sure they match the flutes of the nut on your rifle. Once the barrel is anchored with the appropriate vise, a sharp rap or 2 with 3 lb. dead blow hammer will usually loosen the nut. Do not file on the wrench; be patient; lightly shake it while you apply forward pressure; it will slide on. If the wrench fits loose it will damage and ruin your nut. After installing your new barrel make sure the headspace is set correctly. To do this properly you must remove the extractor and the ejector from the bolt head. Caution: Both have small springs that will fly if you're not careful. If you have any doubt AT ALL, concerning correct headspace, consult a competent gunsmith. Don't be the last one in your family to hear the infamous words: "Hey ya'll watch this".

Doesn't fit the nut on an old 340B 22 Hornet, the nut has round bottom grooves but is smaller in diameter than newer barrel nuts. Works great on a new model 12FV! Outside edges...Read complete review

Doesn't fit the nut on an old 340B 22 Hornet, the nut has round bottom grooves but is smaller in diameter than newer barrel nuts. Works great on a new model 12FV! Outside edges are a little sharp so file them smooth or wear gloves.

Just received this product. I'm happy to report that in addition to the wrench you see here, this now also COMES WITH A WRENCH FOR THE SMOOTH NUT newer models! It also comes with a brass shim to keep from marring the smooth nut. Best value on the net for these tools.

Made from 1/4" hardened laser-cut steel. It fit my barrel nut PERFECT, with no play at all. I made a set of wooden barrel blocks, put them in my vice, and hit this barrel wrench with a mid weight plastic mallet very quick and brisk to break the nut free.

Must have tool when removing the Savage barrel nut...You must use the Wheeler action wrench, also to make it a breeze...I also used some AR-15 barrel vice jaws the had several barrel sizes that fit the heavy barrel of the Savage...I heated the barrel nut just hot enough to the touch and it came off without a hitch....Must have tools for the switch barrel rifle~!

Get it! This made it ...

Get it! This made it simple to pull the 223 barrel from my model 10 Savage action. I replaced it with a Shilen pre-chambered 221 Fireball TN .250 heavy target barrel, averages 0.5" groups and better, some a lot better. I used a 1/2" breaker bar wrench with and a 3' pipe, no prob, easy control and no damage. Savage actions are great! Installed a Rifle Basix target trigger for this (from Midway) too.

Very nice wrench! I swapped barrels to my new Shilen barrel on my Savage mod12 204 Ruger with no problems. Nice tight fit to ensure nut removal without scaring or damaging barrel nut, just carefully work the wrench on the nut, it will go. Also... buy or make a barrel vice. 10 min. barrel swap with this wrench and headspace gages. Thank you Midway and Wheeler!

I had a stubborn barrel ...

I had a stubborn barrel nut, so my wrench was subjected to some abuse. I beat on it with a dead blow hammer, I pulled on it with a socket wrench, and overall subjected it to serious abuse. The wrench is still usable, but the teeth were bent and the socket holes were distorted in the process. If it can take this abuse and still be useable, it is worthy of five stars. I hope my next rebarrel job is not this difficult!

Save yourself the time and $$ and get this wrench... or you can do what I did; Use a pipe wrench, ruin the barrel nut, buy the wrench anyway and another nut. I suggest just getting it.

Used this to pull the barrel from my Savage F-Class target action. It did the job with no issues. One observation, the teeth and edges are a bit rough on the tool. However it didn't mark up the nut so no complaints here.
