Frankford Arsenal Fine Powdered Mica is the absolute perfect lubricant for inside the case necks of bottleneck cartridges. Mica minimizes the distortion and stretching caused as the resizing die expander ball passes through the case neck. Mica is clean, easy to use and won't contaminate your powder charge. A little mica sprinkled on lubricated cast bullets significantly reduces stickiness and makes loading faster and easier. Use with the Frankford Arsenal Case Neck Lubricator (sold separately). Note: Full length sizing still requires a standard case sizing lube.

If you are serious about your handloads, dry case neck lubrication is the only way. With this product, there is no worry of contaminating your powder with oily wet lubes. I was sick of having powder kernels and brass shavings sticking to the inner walls when using wet lubes. This dry lube is outstanding- allows for smooth sizing and is simple to apply. Very sensitive to environmental moisture, though.

I purchased this product ...

I purchased this product to lubricate case necks during resizing, but I have been very disappointed with its performance. It is difficult to apply evenly and the frictional forces are far too great during resizing - it feels the same as if you were using no lubricant at all. I found this to be the case even when using carbide sizing buttons in the sizing die. I have reluctantly gone back to using liquid case lube which, although it requires clean-up after sizing, results in far less effort required on the press.

This stuff is great for cast bullets lube with a press or the pan lubed, just let them dry overnight the put a scoop of mica in a bottle with the bullets and shake them up.
I have found that clean-up is a lot faster with less fouling with the use of the mica

The little pack of this stuff that comes with FA's case neck lube kit lasted me over a year then I orderd this 4 oz. container. It is the same ultra fine mica that works great for inside case neck lube for all the calibers I load. I also have gotten some tips for other uses of the powdered mica that are terrific. I use it in the primer trays and schutes on my reloading presses by lightly brushing a tiny bit to a silvery shine on those surfaces, primers now don't stick anywhere. I also put 1/4 teaspoon in a 1 gallon zip lock bag and shake up a bunch of shotshell cupped wads. This makes loading very smooth and easier.

When seating cast .45 ...

When seating cast .45 cast bullets (ACP) I noticed that occasionally some of the bullets were slightly cocked in the case. I found that coating the tip of the bullet and the sides eliminated this problem. The mica provided enough lubrication to eliminate friction between the bullet seater and the tip of the bullet to allow it to straighten itself as it slides down into the shell casing. I also do the same with jacketed bullets.

I use powdered mica in an unconventional way. I lubricate the inside of the necks of bottleneck cartridges when seating the bullets. I use a Q-Tip and run it around the inside of the necks. Not sure this is necessary, but it works well for me, making bullet seating notably smoother.

Haven't used this product for inside case neck lubing yet. However, I'm getting to the point where I am tumble lubing almost all of my cast bullets for handgun shooting with a mix of 50/50 liquid Alox and lacquer thinner (even non-tumble lube designs). My Lyman 450 Lube/sizer is almost retired now as I seldom size/lube anymore. With a few exceptions, I'm just not finding much of a difference in accuracy or leading. The tumble lubed bullets are still a little tacky when they dry, especially if I use two coats. I dust them with this stuff afterward and no more tackiness, no more build up on bullet seating stem, and/or accumulation of dirt/dust, etc. on stored, sized and lubed bullets. It seems we have a lot of dust in west Texas and it gets in everything, at least in my garage. I apply it using about 1/4 tsp to 1/2 tsp per 500 bullets (depending on caliber) and roll them in a large coffee can. They come out with a light coating and no more tackiness. I've found no effect on bullet accuracy and no barrel leading. If you tumble lube, this stuff is a great product and worth your time, money and effort.

I think people who are having trouble with this product aren't using it correctly. It is only useful as an "inside the neck" re-sizing lube. The appropiate sized nylon brush is needed, with a liberal ammount of the mica on the bristles. Turn the brush inside the case mouth. Smooth, easy neck re-sizing.

I would not purchase this product again. I have been using graphite to lube the inside of my case necks, after reading about this product I thought it would be better but it was not, the press handle had to have much more pressure applied when the case was removed during the neck size operation. I went back to my graphite.

I do not recommend this product. I used it with the brush applicator, and neck sizing was still difficult. Its better than nothing, but now I use graphite powder applied with a q-tip to the inside of the case neck, and it works better.
