The Lyman Power Trimmer provides the reloader with a tool that performs rapid and uniform trimming with fully adjustable settings for overall trim length. The replaceable cutter head accepts all Lyman pilots and the quick cartridge lock/unlock feature ensure minimal down time when switching between cases to be trimmed. Carbide cutter head available (sold separately, item# 274-312)

I have no extensive ...

I have no extensive experience with other brands, but I've had a Lyman for ten years, have trimmed literally thousands of cases with it and only now is it showing any significant signs of wear. It has always been fairly easy to keep a box of brass within .002" of each other and when I'm careful I can cut that in half. Actually, the only genuine reason I stumbled onto this web page is because I'm looking for another one.

I purchased this trimmer ...

I purchased this trimmer primarily to trim .223 brass. After trimming roughly 1200 rounds, I found that the .22 pilot actually expanded the case neck to the point it wouldn't properly hold a seated bullet. I've used the trimmer with other calibers and it works fine. In looking at the .22 pilot, it appears to wobble in the cutter head and thus expands the case neck. I've talked with Lyman and they're sending a new cutter and .22 pilot to hopefully resolve the issue. On the whole, I like the operation of the unit.

Had one for years but never used it that much. It did seize up and I sent it back to Lyman.(40.00 frt) Lyman said it needed a new motor and for 85.00 more they would fix it. Well, you can buy new ones on the net for just over 200.00. I told them to forget that and they sent it back to me and I had to pay anther 40.00 duty etc. Right now I hate Lyman and their service. I will look for something else from a company with better ustomer service.

I find this product very useful, but alas very under powered. I like the design and have used it for years. Mine got very hot and would quit running, I'm going to see if I can get a new motor put in. I believe I would never buy this product new again unless it was supplied with a motor with more power and better cutters. I have trimmed and deburred many, many cases with this unit.

Simply a must for reloaders who reload surplus or larger quantities of brass than just a handful. Holds .002 tolerance when you are blowing and going, closer if you take your time. It has also cleans the primer pocket without having to changing the cutter. The brushes mount on the outboard end of the unit. The Lyman chamfering tool should be an automatic when you order this unit. When set up correctly the chamfer tool works flawlessly. This thing gets five stars

I'm here looking at Lyman's reviews to give me an idea how much credibility to give the reviews of other trimmers. Am totally dissatisfied with my 15yr old Lyman due to lack of power, seizing up if case is long enough to actually need trimmed. If I can butcher it and repower with a larger motor I won't buy new, but while not rich, I can afford better than this Mickey-mouse contraption!

I have had mine for over 30 years and the only thing I would like to see is a stronger motor. From what I am reading I am concerned that the quality has suffered with time. Am glad I bought mine long ago. I use mine for a dozen different calibers, I also have a manual unit but use it only for primer pockets and chamfering.

Very disappointed. The motor would just seize up even during initial set up. The chuck did not work properly, it would not release the casing. I liked the features it offered but too many problems.

I am on my second trimmer. I got my first Lyman power trimmer when I was 18 years old for Christmas. I am 49 now and it is still working fine. I bought a second one because I was afraid Lyman for some reason would stop making them. The newer one has more plastic construction than the older one but it functions well. I cannot even imagine reloading without this trimmer. It is the best you will find. Spend the money for one, you will never regret it!

I sent it back. It bound up when I tried to feed it. The motor was loose out of the box. The fan hit the shroud. It seemed to be underpowered. It was pretty much useless to me. A shame because the design and features are the best, just the build quality isn't there. ps. I bought an RCBS power trimmer. I actually like the features of the Lyman better, but the RCBS is built to last forever and works like gang busters.

The Lyman Power Trimmer did not trim cases square. I had a .005" out of round. The universal chuck was not user friendly. Hard to get the cartridge case in, tried different calibers.

I have used this trimmer for 15 years and it works well but for the extra money get the RCBS unit and the 3 way cutter. The RCBS is a hands free spring loaded trimmer and with the 3 way cutters you do not have to chamfer the inside or outside of the case as a separate step.
