Speer Bullets has been known as a leader in innovative bullet technology since Vernon Speer started making bullets in 1943. Speer Empty Shot Capsules are one of those innovative products that Speer is known for. These capsules allow the reloader to create custom shot cartridges to shoot out of their revolver. Simply fill the capsule with your favorite size shot, snap in the base wad and load like a conventional bullet. These capsules are intended for short-range pest and varmint control and not recommended for self-defense. These capsules are not for use in firearms having ported recoil compensators or lever action rifles. Shot not included.

There is no better ...

There is no better product to load shot charges in a revolver. The capsules break apart immediately upon exiting the muzzle, unlike the home-brewed shotshells using gelatin 'vet' caps. I use all sizes of shot,but prefer going by the directions on the box for maximum effect on vermin. Larger shot carries further, but with thinner patterns. Smaller may exit the cylinder/barrel gap.

I was disappointed because I thought the box would have reloading information on the outside. It does not. You'll have to reference the Speer manual (product # 537-267).

Fun and useful

I load these with #11 shot over W231 powder. They are great for snakes around the pond or where ever you might encounter them. For fun, toss a can with one hand then draw and shoot with the other. It's unsafe to fire a bullet into the air any where here, so the shot capsules make safe shooting. It takes extra time to load, but is simple. And they will smoke carpenter bees around the wood pile!

I have load 150 of these so far. The only problem is every time I make up a box my frinds and Family wipe me out...I have to hide some so I can shoot...

I have used these capsules for years in everything from 2" derringers to 20" lever action carbines. They provide absolutely the handiest, most effective snake medicine available. May take a little playing with to get the length and crimp right for some firearms like the derringers, but well worth the effort. The crimp will be necessary in most repeating firearms.

Awesome little contraption. I have purchased these as ammo before in the past, and they have always worked good. But being able to load them is so much cheaper, and much more convenient.My box did come with load information on a piece of paper inside the container, so there was no guess work. I received 53 capsules, so got a few extras (not complaining about that). They work really well in my Model 65 357/38 S&W (4" barrel). At 20 feet (a lot longer distance than they are used) it will pepper a standard piece of paper with ease.These work equally well in either 38 or 357 cases, so that does not matter. If you do break them inside of the case, they are a bear to dig out... So make sure you get your die set up for these, and load them all. I will definitely be buying these again.

38's are great, but when ...

38's are great, but when getting into .45's recoil causes them to creep out of the case. a heavy crimp will break them off. glue around the inside of the case after seating does well, but best is to load very light. you still have more than enough power, and the patterns are substantially tighter, which is what determines your range. I use #12 shot taken from RIO shotgun shells, and the effective range (for a snakes head) is about 50% better.

I have used these capsules in 38 cases with #9 shot and gone rabbit hunting with my Marlin lever action. It's sure a lot of fun get strange looks hunting rabbits with a rifle you can also boast to all your friends.

Took these snake loads to Wyoming for recent prairie dog hunt. Performed well. Used Speer's recommended load with Bullseye. Recommend #9 shot as 8 1/2's had too many pattern holes at 10 feet from a S&W 2 inch Model 60.

I've been using these capsules a long time. When you shoot a snake with one, it looks like it's been run through a strainer. My son has shot two cottonmouths this year so far and reports similar results. I've loaded them with #4, 6, 7 1/2, 8, 9, 10. I get best results with #8.
