Berger Varmint Bullets were designed specifically for the varmint hunter looking for an accurate bullet that will deliver extreme accuracy, consistent instant expansion and devastating results. The large nose opening expands instantly upon impact dumping all of the bullets energy into the target causing extreme expansion creating the highest possible opportunity for a one-shot kill. This bullet is not recommended for the varmint hunter who is looking for a bullet that will not damage the pelt.

The Low Drag bullets are made from a special design that is very effective as a short to medium range varmint/predator bullet. This is not loaded ammunition.

Just returned from Kansas ...

Just returned from Kansas PD hunt where I shot 180 of these at 3450 fps in a 6 X 47 Lapua and around 700 .223 Rem out of purpose built PD AR platform guns. This bullet's listed BC is .277. A .22 cal 55 gr Balistic Tip or V-Max is listed at .267 and .255. I thought that there would not be much difference in the field. That is not the case. This bullet carries much better than merely comparing BCs would indicate. The 69 gr. Berger required about one half the elevation and wind that the .22 cal bullets required from 500 to 800 yards, and was less affected by little wind shifts and changes. Very satisfying to shoot at distance in the wind. Splat factor was huge at ranges under 400 yds, adequate to 780.

This seems to be a relatively easy to tune secant ogive bullet of high BC. It stabilizes fine at sea level and 60 deg. F. temps out of a 14 twist barrel. I am shooting it at around 3600 fs out of a 6X47 Lapua. Varget and VV 550 both work. Easiest tune is with low runout ammunition and a light (10 thousandths or so) jam into the lands. This bullet shot the best out of red, green and purple tipped bullets from 55 to 70 grains tested, only beaten by an old Sierra 68 gr benchrest hollow point that is no longer made. My one box was from the middle 1970's, and of course I shot up most of them in testing. Haven't shot any game with the Berger yet, will report back.
