Product Information

These revolutionary bullets from Barnes are made of 100% copper and contain no lead. When the bullet expands, four razor-sharp cutting petals are created, allowing the bullet to penetrate farther through tough bone and tissue. These bullets usually retain 100% of their original weight, making them a superb choice for hunting. Barnes recommends initially seating bullets 0.050" off the lands. Best accuracy will be found from 0.030" to 0.070" depending on the rifle. This is not loaded ammunition.

Performance is most excellent. I load them for a Handi Rifle and Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70. They make cloverleaf groups at 75 yards ahead of H4198 and AA1680. I have used them on numerous hogs and deer in the South and black bear in Alaska with almost all resulting in a pass through.

These have to be seated fairly deep in the 45-70 case as they are long bullets. Other than taking up precious room for powder they make up for it in knockdown power! This thing is a flying ashtray at around 2100fps. I havent been able to hunt with it yet but I am waiting for Oregon to issue a Sasquatch tag. THEN I will go hunting!!!

Awesome bullet. I've been reloading Barnes for more than 10 years for my 300 win mag, with 100% animal recovery. I tried these bullets for my 45-70. Reloading a recipe from the Barnes reloading manual, my Marlin 1895 likes 40.5 grains of IMR 4227 with groups of 1.5 inches at 100yds. After finding a load, I could not wait to shoot a pig on Benning with this round. First shot and the pig fell right where he stood. Can't wait to shoot another one.

These bullets are devastating on deer and any other game. I'm shooting these out of an 1895 XLR behind 50 grains of IMR 4198 and grouping solid sub 1" groups at 100 yards. The only problem I see with these bullets is that I wasn't able to achieve full power loads because since they are solid copper, this makes them a little longer than lead bullets so the loads get compressed a lot sooner than they normally would. I'm sure this isn't that much of a problem because these bullets should theoretically out penetrate any other bullet out there. I've shot several deer with this bullet and the exit holes are huge and the deer literally get knocked down every time on impact. They hit hard!

I've loaded about 60 of these into once used 450 Marlin cases for a 1895G 18.5". Great grouping at 100 yards with a simple bench (lawn table) rest. Loaded behind Fed LR, H4198 with a solid crimp. Yet to take game with it but I'd feel safe using it against anything but dangerous African game. Loads easy, shoots good. 1950 FPS. It wrecked a 1' thick slab of concrete.

Used this bullet in a 450 Marlin. 1900 fps. Shot a black bear at 20 yards. 45 cal hole in 2" hole out. Bear dead right there. Great bullet for 45-70 or 45 Marlin.

I have found this to be an excellent bullet in my Guide Gun. It is accurate(clover leaf groups at 100 yards), relatively flat shooting for the practical hunting ranges used. It penetrates and expands perfectly, retaining almost all of its weight. I shot a 6 foot Black bear in the chest, bullet was just under the hide on the back leg. A real preformer for the 45/70.

Tried these and several other bullets in my new #1 sporter Shiloh Sharps. Groups were very tight with several holes touching at 100 yards. All bullets seem to shoot to the same point of impact with this gun but these bullets were very close groups. With RL-7, starline brass, CCI 200 large rifle primers and these bullets I took my first whitetail. It was a doe but I was in shock when the deer crumpled like I hit it in the head with a 10lb sledge hammer. Exit hole looked so bad I thought I was going to be sick and I have killed my share of deer. Definitely will load more of these. Case head expansion 3/16" above the rim was .501 so I would increase load but seated to the top cannelure it is a compressed load. Love this bullet!!!!

This is the equivalent of installing Twin Turbochargers on a Corvette!!They are not flat nose but rather Extreme Hollow Points with a "flat nose" shape that makes them safe for use in a tubular magazine. It defines "KNOCK DOWN" power!!Highly recommend using a Lee Factory Crimp Die. Especially when reloading this cartridge, due to the recoil generated when approaching MAX LOADS.The last deer I shot, in the shoulder, actually flipped in the air before coming to its final rest a hundred or so yards away!! ---NOT FOR THE MEEK!!!
