The Nikon M223 Rifle Scope is a tactical scope designed for use on AR-style rifles or tactical bolt action rifles. The scope features Nikon's Ultra ClearCoat Optical System to provide up to 95% light transmission, 4 inches of constant eye relief and a sturdy 1-piece tube. Another feature of the M223 is the new return to zero turrets which simplify adjustments for different ranges at the range or in the field. I confess I'm dissapointed, or at least expected too much. I have other 1-4x's and had wished Nikon would make the M223 in the BDC 600 reticle, instead of the Point Blank. It was to go on a DMR chambered 6.8 SPC. So I jumped when it became available through Midway. First the glass is certainly good, but even my Millet DMS 1-4x was discernably better. The BDC reticle not only doesn't get in the way, but is so tiny it's hard to see or identify the circles unless perfectly still and contrasting background. The cross hairs are fine and then finer at the center, but for a 1-4X, outside of center, they should be thicker to allow quicker target acquistion. I contacted Nikon, as the 1-4x BDC 600 wasn't listed on their Spot-on online software, which is key to using the BDC 600 reticle with other calibers and loads, and was again one of the main reasons I thought this combination would be great for the 6.8. They have in the interim put it on their site. It did come with basic lens covers which was preferable. Also, the turrets are zero adjustable, but are not lockable. However, despite the fact that it wasn't exactly as I hoped, it did perform well at short ranges (havent' shot beyond 100yd yet), held zero and good features so gave it 4 stars. It is not however, ideal for tactical use, or for me, even hunting a moving target. It strikes me as best suited for target shooters who have time to acquire the reticle and dots.

Good: this is a very ...

Good: this is a very useful magnification range, the eye relief is very flexible, turrets work well and the included scope caps are nice. Bad: optical quality is just fair for the price, and at "1x" it seems to actually be a wide angle view around maybe 0.8-0.9x. I also have a Burris 1-4x and its 1x setting is exactly 1.0x as far as I can tell. The crosshairs are very fine - good for precision, not well suited to the most likely uses of this 1-4x scope.

Mounted to a 581 series Mini 14 Tactical with the Ruger rings. After 300-400 rounds, everything still tight and the scope is holding zero. There are a couple of complaints about how fine the cross hairs are. They are - which I generally like for my typical range/country plinking trips. IMO, if you need fast target acquisition, spend another 150-200 and get an Aimpoint of EOtech. If you don't like batteries, try the Nikon Monarch African 1-4 with the German reticle. Shooting from a bench with my Mini, I shot sub MOA (100yrds), twice. And, picking up the cross quickly, two eyes open, is still easy enough for plinking. I plan to order another Nikon M223 1-4 BDC for my M4. Four stars because the front flip cover was broken out of the box. Nikon sent two more - they both broke too. Put a Butler Creek on it now.

I received this scope yesterday and mounted it using the M-223XR mount. The scope is very high quality and was easy to sight in. The optics are first rate. The BDC Reticle is nice but without using a range finder I dont see a lot of need for it. I do like the fine cross hairs. At 1x its easy to shoot with both eyes open. My only problem is with the standard sight post on the Colt. It is visible and distracting and I am going to have to get it replaced with a different gas block and flip up sight. For shooting to 300 yards or so this scope is hard to beat. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting such a scope.

I waited a long time to ...

I waited a long time to get this and was really disappointed. The reticle is far too fine to put on my Mini-14. This reticle would only be acceptable at the target range. If you want to use it for something else, especially in not too bright light, buy something else. The Leupold LR DUPLEX reticle, which I also own is far superior to this one.

Scope is bank vault ...

Scope is bank vault solid, easy (but not TOO easy) to change magnification. With the FREE Nikon M-223 mount this just barely clears my Magpul Gen II MBUS rear fold down sight. With a standard AR front sight post you have to train your eye to focus on the crosshairs, not the post. On 4x magnification this isn't an issue as the front sight becomes a small fuzzy area near the bottom of the field of view. Glass is very clear and the reticle looks great.

Great scope. Finally had a chance to get out and shoot with it and it held zero perfectly. The scope has very clear glass and the BDC 600 reticle is much better than the point blank one that Nikon generally sells. Midway has exactly what I was looking for in a compact scope for a great price.

Fantastic Scope for the money and much better than many costing twice as much.Crystal Clear GlassSimple Reticle based upon hold over of zero makes it very fast with picking up one shot hits out to distance.I would suggest getting the M223 mount which is matches to this series of scopes.

bought this scope recently. Scope is over rated and overpriced. shortly after purchase I noticed the vertical adjustment knob was labeled wrong. "down" was up and "up" was down. I called Nikon and they had a hard time believing this so they e-mailed me a shipping label and ask me to send them the scope so they could see for themselves. that was over 10 days ago. I made phone inquiry and its under repair status until they replace the knob and I will not get the scope back for another 8 to 10 days.

Picked this scope up with the free mount offer..and got to tell you for less than $300 mounted I couldn't be happier. I've shot both the 1-4x point blank reticle and BDC..and the center dot of the point blank is just too big for targets 200+. I use this for 3-Gun and have been very pleased.
