Product Information

Custom-grade ammunition from the factory. Built to the tightest tolerances for peak performance rivaling and sometimes surpassing handloads in many guns. Loaded with the Flex Tip eXpanding bullet, the same used in the Hornady LEVERevolution cartridges, this custom load features a soft polymer flex tip that's tough enough to stand up to a jacketed bullet, but soft enough so it won't dent the primer of the round in front of it or cause accidental firing in a lever gun.

The patented Flex Tip bullet features an interlocking design that keeps the core of the bullet and the jacket together creating a deeper penetrating, more humane kill. Not only that, they offer controlled expansion, enhanced accuracy and the delivery of flatter trajectories. These bullets are safe to use in all tubular magazines, as well as any other firearm. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

This was the very first ammo shot in my new S&W 460 EVR. I took it to the local indoor range, and had to use the rifle range with ear plugs and ear muffs! I warned everyone in the rifle range that they needed to double ear protection and all but one of them laughed and continued on with their shooting. By the 3rd shot sighting in my new revolver, only that one person was still in the rifle range with me. The others where all holding their ears next to the front counter. This is by far the most accurate ammo that I have ever bought. I have been reloading and shooting competitively for nearly 40 years and this is by far the best combo I have come across, in ammo and gun. 250 yard through body shots are the norm on 400-600 lb wild hogs! Good Hunting!

As stated by many, extremely accurate in my XVR performance center gun. Only giving 3 stars due to performance on large Iowa white tails. I will admit that only 2 deer shot with weapon is limited exposure, but I feel that the bullet may be to lightly constructed to reach vitals of larger sized deer, as I shot a large doe 4 out of 5 shots out of the cylinder before she went down, from 25 yards to approx 130 yards. I did not get the chance to inspect internal damage because I gave the deer to another hunter. But the next day I shot a mature buck quartering to me at around 25 yards. Cross hairs on point of shoulder to exit behind off shoulder. The buck dropped at the shot, but was up within seconds. When the buck rose the entrance wound location to the angle of the shot should have boiled the vitals, the entrance was huge, deer went down again then got back up and was gone with no follow up shot available. Tracked the deer .75 miles with blood trail disappearing at .25 miles, deer made thick brush where I could not track by hoof, and with no blood trail to follow the deer was lost. Due to the angle of the shot, and location of on side wound, I truly believe that the bullet blew up on impact with the shoulder and never penetrated to the vitals as the angle was about perfect. I think the load would be fine on antelope or perfect broad side shots, but is to lightly constructed for large deer, at not such perfect presentation. After that it was known as the tracking gun, you shoot the deer then track it down. I will be switching to a hand load or factory ammo with the Barnes bullet.

Accurate but no penetration

I have an encore with a 22 inch SSK barrel. I chronographed these loads at 2970 fps. That's SMOKIN ! Also very accurate--I'm getting a .90 inch group at 100 yards. Now to the problem. Shot a big buck this morning, he was quartering to me at 75 yards. I hit him perfect-- right at the point of the shoulder. I expected him to drop in his tracks, instead he ran a 150 yards and thank god he stopped at the edge of the field to look back. I shot again and shot him through the lungs-- he ran 20 yards and dropped. Upon inspection-- the first shot was perfect right in the middle of the shoulder. The bullet completely fragmented in the shoulder and never reached the vitals. Hornandy needs to put a thicker jacket on this bullet. It can't handle the velocity at least when shot out of a rifle barrel.

Good ammo, nice reloadable brass and the best price. My gripe is Hornady is only loading the 460 with a 200 gr flex tip slug. How about 250, 275 or a 300??

This bullet's expansion is nearly double once it penetrates and has a lethal shockwave on organ and soft tissue which is great for heart/ lung shots. This 200g load is excellent for deer up to 200 yards. and Elk or Moose up to 100 yards. But if youre thinking of bear look for a larger grain bullet that has the power to get through heavy brush and enough knockdown power left to penetrate and break bones if needed.

I love these loads, my favorite shell for my 460, the report from these is louder than all others Ive tried or hand loaded. I would love to know the powder used in them but hornady says its not available to buy.

I shoot this ammo in a T/C encore with a 15" barrel and Bushnell 2X scope. My accuracy doesnt vary it's either 1.5 inches at 25 yards or 1.5 at 100 yards. Basically it shoots flat and straight, also I am getting an average velocity of 2700fps with the added barrel length. Even at long range(200-250) this stuff takes a few milk jugs to slow down, bout 3, before it stops. Its good stuff but thats what I expect from Hornady.

I rented one of the S&W 460 5inch barrels recently while out on the West Coast; had seen an article about the 460 and 500 S&W mags and thought I'd try it out. The 460 appears more versatile because of the different loadings you can shoot through it (45 Colt, 454 Casull, and 460 S&W Mag). I can tell you this; recoil with this load is very manageable (more than I thought it would be), and accuracy is 5-7 inches offhand at 25 yds (about as good as I can shoot) without a rest. After the first two shots I turned around to my buddy to get his reaction, and ALL the shooters from the other lanes were gathered behind us wide-eyed! Needless to say, we went through a box of 20 in no time. This guy's a real hoot to shoot, and I have no doubt it would drop a big whitetail buck in his tracks. Barrel's about the right size, and grips help manage the recoil. The muzzle blast actually thumps your chest noticeably; double up on hearing protection.....

Smith 460 XVR shooters...You know this ammo is the very best bang for the buck. Consistent round after round. With an 8 3/4" barrel or longer and some good optics...you can get 1" or less groups at 100 off a rest. And in the field, the ammo performs very much up to your ability to steady aim. It's a great cartridge and the Hornady 454 in a 300 grain is also a good choice in field.

Ammunition is excellent, the price is reasonable; but be very carefully with the side blast, my buddy ended up in the hands of a hand surgeon with a nasty open laceration via explosion. Watch your hands or sand bags all the time.

This loading is AMAZING when fired from a 20" carbine barrel. I get over 2800 FPS when fired from my T/C Katadhin carbine.
