Product Information

Radians Pro-Amp Electronic Earmuffs offer electronic hearing protection, automatically compressing harmful noise down to a level below 85 dB. They also amplify non-harmful sounds, allowing the wearer to hear sounds that might otherwise be missed. Directional microphones with independent volume control allow for true stereo sound, while low profile ear cups and an adjustable padded headband offer comfort and a secure fit. Requires 6 AAA batteries (included).

I purchased these after ...

I purchased these after reading a thread recommending them on GlockTalk.com. I've been to the range once with them and they performed better than I expected, they are very comfortable and suppress sound as well or better than any other electronic suppression that I have tried. The amplification has a quick recovery time and pick up minute sounds. They, like any other over-the-ear head sets will not totally block sound.

The unit was defective when received (rubber seal on left earpiece was torn) on 1/16/06. I called the same day Radians and informed them of the defect, and they offered to replace the unit - if I paid return shipping. They flatly refused to reimburse me for returning their defective product. Not good customer service; however, the retailer did agree to pay return shipping. I'll get another brand of hearing protection due to poor customer support by Radians.

Prior 9 reviews are accurate but some folks need to get a life.Pros: Best price for amplifying ear muffs; fits small/med heads best. High frequency sounds have high magnification.Cons: QC and convenience poor, so owners need to treat the earmuffs carefully and know how to change batteries. Static might be high at max volume. If you are willing to take a chance on getting a dud set, having a low service life, and having to replace batteries carefully, these earmuffs are good for the price. The earmuffs are not a Milspec product!!!

I too had the right ear ...

I too had the right ear go dead after in the range bag for 2 months. The left ear worked, so I can hear, it just stinks I can't hear in stereo.

Not good, and as they ...

Not good, and as they aged, they didn't get any better.1st pair - one side did not work at all. Exchanged, this one works... 3 AAA batteries on each side, difficult to get the battery covers off and more difficult to firmly seat the batteries.As they aged, the noise and static grew louder and louder, and finally the left side became so noisy that I had to shut it off completly.Now out of warranty, I decided to open up the left side and check for poor connections - what I found could not be repaired. The left printed circuit board was completely corroded, I cleaned off as much corrosion as I could and it worked - for an hour. Apparently, under the hot Arizona sun, one's sweat is absorber through the foam pads and is disposited directly onto the unprotected printed circuit board.End of story, set is now in the trash can.

I have a mixed opinion on ...

I have a mixed opinion on this product.These muffs did not seal at all over my or my better half's ears. We tested by clapping and found them far lacking in any noise reduction compared to our other muffs.The elctronics on these are very good, instant attack/recovery for loud noise and not too much white noise. However, make sure they fit your head before purchasing.

I've been running a set of these for about 3 years. Noise reduction is good, amplification is good.Main complaint is that they take 6 batteries and go through them like cane through a goose.

I received these earmuffs ...

I received these earmuffs as a birthday gift from my daughter and son-in-law. A real surprise but just what I wanted. To my dismay they are very disappointing. Two of the six batteries supplied were dead. Really DEAD. Okay no biggy. I replaced the defective batteries with new. I then wrestled them into place ( they don't fit well at all) and discovered that the amount of available volume from one side is negligable while the other side is much greater. Of course reversing the muffs reverses the disparity. These muffs are also sold as "Remington Electronic Earmuffs". I plan to trash these, purchase a pair from a DIFFERENT manufacturer and hope my kids won't notice. For what it's worth, products imported from Taiwan have come to be of decent quality while the stuff imported from mainland China (as are these earmuffs) are still junk (as are these earmuffs).

Bought a pair of these last year. Can't say a negative thing about them. I have never owned a pair of electronic earmuffs before, and was very skeptical about which one to get. I really like the look and functionality, and have received numerous compliments. For the price you will not find a better product!!

I purchased these about a ...

I purchased these about a year ago on a suggestion from a fellow forum member. Big mistake, they have been more of a liability to me at the range than anything else. For the sole reason that each side of this muff requires 3 AAA batteries, they are not easy to get to and you have to pry the batteries out as they are too tight, and prying them out has led to me damaging the leades that touch the battery. How do I know about changing batteriess in these things so intimatley? Well, ITS BECAUSE THEY BURN ENERGY IN THE OFF POSITION! You can put full batts in , leave the muffs "OFF" and come back two months later to DEAD batts. Many small electronics do this, but the higher quality ones dont. Also I doubled down on my mistake and purchase TWO muffs. So folks, im changing 12 AAA batteries when I want to fire the muffs up. Which is absolutely rediculous being that its not an easy task trying to pry 12 small batteriess out when you're just trying to get your stuff together to go shooting. Like I said , liability , burden, inconvenience. On a positive note, they reduce noise well. But so can stuffing boogers in your ears. I'll be selling my pair for 50. per set and taking a loss for making a mistake.
