The Caldwell Rock BR Competition Rifle Front Shooting Rest offers all the features found on other, more expensive bench-rest quality rests including coarse and fine elevation adjustments and finger-tip windage adjustment. The cradle is supported on ball bearings, the base is made of cast iron, there are stainless steel leveling feet, an adjustable forend stop, and bag tensioning adjustment. The Caldwell Rock BR Competition Rifle Front Shooting Rest gives you the stability you need to shoot the tightest groups possible. Accepts all Caldwell Deluxe Front Rest Bags and includes a 3" Lobe Bag (unfilled) and a Medium Varmint Bag (filled).

Wind age adjustment ...

Wind age adjustment rotates rather than sliding resulting in not enough travel. Ball bearings rotate on bottom side of painted wheel, needs flat spacer as bearing surface.

I bought it when on sale for $125.00 and case was included. I replaced the bag with a leather bag. It's functional but sloppy. Replacing the top end with a Shade tree Engineering top may be a good option. It is about what I expected; no more, no less. I would recommend it for the recreational shooter but not for the serious Bench Rest shooter.

The new design of the Rock BR eliminates all of the issues some had with previous versions. It is truly a great rest and an absolute STEAL for the price! In order to find a better rest with all the same features, you would have to spend over twice as much money. That's no exaggeration. The BR is rock steady with zero movement or play in the cradle. Adjustments are smooth and precise. The only thing I would upgrade is the bags. Protektor models 1, 2 and 3 all work great and aren't expensive. If you're looking for a really nice rest for a great price, this is it! Btw, use an Edgewood rear bag and you are SET!

As the other reviews state, this is a nice piece that is well built and assembles easily. I found that the Stanley Bostitch Heavy Duty Tool Box facilitates transporting the Rock BR to & from the range. The box measures 28 1/4" by 12 1/2" by 11 1/2". The Rock BR fits almost perfectly inside. The Caldwell stabilizing feet keep it relatively stable in the tool box.

If you can save up a few pennies and spend the money on this rest over cheaper ones its totally worth it, when combined with the caldwell rear bag you truly are ROCK solid, The rest assembled very easy and has many many adjustments. I found no problems or cross threads like others had mentioned. After shooting off this rest I can't imagine spending $500 on the fancy ones when this is 150-$170.

Outstanding Shooting Rest! As I read the other reviews, it would seem that Caldwell has already addressed any issues in the design of the rest. They have even built in a very functional level. The shooting rest is very stable, the fit and finish is superb, and all the adjustments are tight and precise. I have experienced no issues with screws stripping or any other adjustment or function issues; simply follow the instructions closely and use some common sense when tightening fasteners. The optional rubber footed pads are a nice addition for some bench top surfaces.

I found that the best feature of this rest was it weight, it is heavy. I found that the rest had loose tolerences, and is just not as steady as a Hart, or Sinclair rest. The windage top is the big downflaw with this rest, it doesn't have much travel, and has a sloppy fit. The rest shares design style with the light weight Bald Eagle rest that is popular with rimfires. The rest is easy to tip forward with a 17 lbs gun. IMO the standard rock rest is a better rest.

Decent design and build ...

Decent design and build quality. Mine isn't exactly straight when locked down which just means I need to set it on the bench a bit off axis. The two screws that hold the ear plates down are aluminum and stripped instantly. They are 10-32 3/4" so plan on replacing them out of the box. Lining the bags and your stock with tape and dusting it with baby powder will make slicker then snot.

I have been a bipod shooter for years..but I have a Remington 700 Police sniper rifle that thinks it is a bench rest rifle so I got this rest. The instructions are fairly clear and I was able to assemble it in a short time. The rest is rock solid and very well made. The bench rest pros at the range all liked it as well. The filled varmint bag that comes with it is perfect for a smaller stock like the Remington 700 Police or for sporter type forestocks. I use a Protector rear bag and was going to order a bag for this rest but did not need to. The elevation and windage adjustments are great. The only thing missing is a cant or level bubble. They should have built one in. My scope has a cant bubble in it so that helps somewhat. I had to do additional set up and adjustments at the range..so I only got off 10 rounds. The grouping was very tight at 100 yards. Once the bag gets broken in and I get used to using a rest rather than a bipod...every round will go through the same hole. For the money..this rest is as good as it gets. Just as good as the Sinclaire rests but for less.

The rest is great for the money. It is a fraction of the cost of a Sinclair or others with the same windage feature. I did have some issues that others had and corrected them. The 4 "5X.8-16" screws as the 4 screws supplied by Caldwell were 5X.8 but not 16 issue I also had. The sloppy fit that the top has mounting to the elevating screw I also had. The design should be improved as you are bolting two pieces together that are like a round peg in a square hole. I corrected this by buttering up the peg (elevating screw) and hole with some glass bedding material and put thread lock on the anchoring screw. It now is rock solid but one piece. The windage adjustment of the newer design does not rotate like the old one and is great. The bags (2) that came with the rest are ok. The unfilled one for the 3" bench rest stocks I have not used, the other midsized one that is filled works great with the narrow stock on a Savage Striker pistol. I also had the course adjusting collar modified by a new keyway cut 180 deg out from the other one so that the rest can be used with 2 legs to the back and one toward the front for pistol use or as intended with 2 legs to front and one back. If you are willing to do some mechanical work, mainly anchoring the top to the elevating screw then this is a great rest if not I would not recommend it. Unless they redesign it.

Very impressed with the weight and controls of this rest. It has been great to shoot off of, but two of the four screw holes stripped out the first time I attempted to put the varmint bag on the rest. Yea, this rest is cheaper than the models from Sinclair, but that is just POOR quality!!! I will be contacting Caldwell, hopefully they will make things right.
