The Lee Pro 1000 Progressive Press is a great press for beginning reloaders or seasoned veterans. Just add a bullet and load a cartridge with each pull of the lever - all other operations are automatic. For added safety, primers and powder are fed only if a case is present. For fine adjustments or for experimenting, an alternate loading sequence allows for loading only one case at a time. Makes learning easy for the first time user. Turrets sold separately.

Warning: Lee recommends to only use CCI or Remington primers. Other primers will not safely work in this priming system.

I've owned this press for about 8 years and though there are things to to get used to, I love this machine. I've loaded thousands of rounds (small rifle and pistol) and haven't hade a problem with the finished product. For starters, set up is fairly simple if you have the extras. Although, I have a few complaints about some things that I've encountered. One being the powder drop unit. When the powder becomes statically charged it sticks to the drop tube. However, rubbing the whole unit and charge disks with a dryer sheet takes out that static. (I used arm and hammer). Now for the primer feed, there were occasions that the primers would feed sideways or even upside down. You can fix this by adjusting the little pin mounted on the side of the primer feed tube so it doesn't vibrate the collector as much. After these alterations, I haven't had a problem since. I do need to check to make sure the primers are feeding though. This is part of my normal operation of checks and balances. As far as everything else, there are no complaints. It feeds the brass fine, timing is flawless; once I time it (only a few seconds and a phillips screwdriver). As far as it loading 600 to 800 rounds in an hour, I've never accomplished it. I take great pride in my reloads and I don't rush. I constantly check to make sure the machine is working properly and the powder, primers and brass aren't running low because once you get started, you get into a rhythm and you may forget. I love this machine, but I need to upgrade to a 5 or more station press. So if you are just starting out in the progressive world of reloading and you want a lot press for little cost this press will serve your needs.

This was my first progressive loader. I used one for about 10 years before I got wise. It's a GREAT machine when it's brand new. I could load well over 1000 rnds/hour when it came out of the box. Caliber conversions weren't all that tough if you bought all the extras (shell plate carrier KIT) etc. But after only about 10,000 rnds it started to have problems. Before I finally got rid of it I was down to about 300 rnds hour. Every few rounds it would jam. The Shell plate carriers (even after replacing all the movements) would come out of alignment and would require adjusting. The Auto Powder measure caused me no end of hassle at the range. When using the little plastic discs and trying to come up with a light load, the powder would develop a static charge and cling to the hole in the disc and NO powder or only a partial load would make it into the shell. I gave up on light loads until I got a Dillon. The primer feed would jam all the time. Even when it was still pretty new I started having problems with it. See, the whole way the thing feeds brass and primers is by vibrations. There are notches milled in one of the pillars and a piece of spring steel that's mounted to the shell plate carrier housing. As you move the lever up and down, the little rod "bounces" along the milled places. That causes the primers to fall and the brass to feed. The thing is, if a primer is already in place (like when you've got a full load, or even a 1/2 load in the tray) it tends to vibrate the whole machine so much that it flips the primer either sideways or upside down. And since it's recessed the whole time, you never see it until it's too late....This is a good, cheap machine for a beginner. But go slow, and don't wear it out too fast.

Perfect for my level of need

I've had this unit in 45ACP for about a year now. It fits my needs perfectly. I can manage around 300 rounds per hour. This is from first setting up, testing measures, etc. to wrapping up chamber checks and boxing. Based on the amount of shooting I do, this is perfectly adequate, and the price can't be beat. It throws consistently with Clays (& Varget). Knock on wood, I've never had a squib, and a relatively small number of crushed primers due to poor situational awareness on my part.

Initial setup can require some tweaking. Once I've got everything "dialed in", it has been amazingly consistent for as simple a device as this is. Extra turret blocks are handy for when you want to bulk decap and don't want your brass to go through every die.

I've also purchased the necessary parts to convert to .223. If you are handy and have limited workspace, this is not a bad route to go, but understand you will have to do some fiddling to do after converting in either direction. If you have lots of bench space or aren't particularly in to tweaking things, you may want to spring for additional kits for each caliber.

All in all, a great progressive for the price, as long as you understand its limits. If you are looking to load 1000 rounds an hour, then a different (& pricier) kit is probably a better option.

Very unreliable junk. I tryed everything. Bought new feeder for the primers, cleaned press, By the time i got 10 reloads done, I could have made 1000 with my 40 year old single Lymann press. NOT recommended if you have a short temper or weak heart. Just Junk!!!!!!!!

Not acceptable performance.

Purchased a used Pro 1000 from a friend who'd given up Action Pistol. Having 2 RL550s, I planned on using the Lee for limited 38 spcl. loading. The primer jamming created too much frustration. It's difficult to correct, stops production, and is bound to happen again soon. If Lee were to correct this failing, the machine would be an acceptable loader, and it would be capable of high production rates. The primer feed system uses the same feed design, and parts, as their hand priming tool. That system works since everything is visable, and you can cheat it out of jamming by shaking it with your hand. On the press, that can't be done, and the primer movement is hidden from view. The Rube Goldberg twanger they use to keep the primers moving often causes tipping, and half feeds, which effectively stops the machine. I have a complete machine shop, and have thought of adapting a different priming system. The Lee simply doesn't have enough metal to work with in that regard, and the cost effectiveness is questionable. The priming system is a failure, and there's nothing to be done to effectively correct it.

You know, for $175 this ...

You know, for $175 this is a pretty good press. I've loaded thousands of 10mm and .45 ACP rounds without many problems. Sure, the beaded chain and primer shaker system are hokey to say the least, but they do work. My main complaint would be the priming system. It could best be described as sloppy. While it's convenient and fast to load, it frequently jams up or feeds primers out of alignment. Maybe 5 primers out of 100 don't feed right. It requires the weight of primers above to feed the last 20 or so primers. The last 20 will have to be hand fed. It works best when you're loading large quantities. Caliber conversions aren't too tough but definitely require retuning everything but the tool head. My advice would be to just buy another Pro 1000 for a second caliber since it doesn't cost much more than the conversion parts. Three Dillon XL650's and thousands of $$ later, and I'm still reluctant to get rid of my Pro 1000 because it works well and doesn't take up much space.

Have the p1000 for 15 years ,load several calibers, you have to get use to the feel of press & not try to over produce rpm ,once in a while you might have to tweak it. When changing shell plates or the carrier, you have to tweak for sure then, its worth the amount you pay, Ive loaded thousands of rounds. If it ever breaks I'll buy another. Works best w/cci primers. If you happen to spill powder take a small brush & clean your primer feed and shell plate good or you'll have problems, once your primer tray is empty and drops 2 more primers refill primer tray the pressure of the primers pushes the primer into proper position for feeding. Now go load them bullets.

I purchased the Pro 1000 in .45 ACP. At first, I was trying to operate it too fast and would not get the travel all the way up or down. After I admitted that it was my error and not the machines, it started working perfectly. You do have to keep your eye on the primer feed and not let it get too low. I have since bought the shell plate holder setup for the .38/.357, 9mm, and the .380 Auto. All work very very well. I also love the other Lee products such as bullet molds, sizer/lube, bulge buster, hand primer, etc. I would rate them all at a 5+.

Very nice press and affordable. It took a little while to get it set up and get used to it, but as long as you make steady movements and keep and eye on the disk to make sure it's not over rotated works great. The only problem I'm having is seating the primers, they feed reliably but don't always seat right. It could just be the primers since a lot of progressive press can be picky on primers or I just have to mess with the settings a little more.

I have loaded 1000 rounds of 45 acp with my press now and for the money you can't beat it. You need to really know how the press works and learn to feel when you pull the handle each time so you know when something is wrong. After a few bent brass and some spilled powder I can now load 50 rounds in about 10 minutes. Great press for the money.

Have had my pro 1000 for a few months and love it! i prime and size on my single stage, from my experiance with LEE priming systems they ain't very reliable. load several different pistol cal. and .223 and just love the speed compared to my single stage. only had a few smashed cases, but that was operator error.

I am a first time reloader and after reading the reviews here and looking at several forums I decided to purchase the press. I can say with out a doubt that it is one of the easiest things I had to set up and use. I have so far loaded 2500 rds as of last night and I would highly recommended this press. I would also encourage a person to read the tips and tricks and watch the Lee help video's as they teach you how to set it up and helps with some of the little issues, actually quirks is a better term, with the set up and running of said press.
