Product Information

This barrel features a match grade chamber and hand lapped bore, which makes it very easy to clean and care for. Barrel will vary no more than +/-.0001" from breech to muzzle. Each barrel is digitally measured to ensure exact tolerances. Barrel is .920" in diameter and is drilled and tapped to accept Volquartsen's Barrel Mount Scope Base. This THM (Tensioned Honed Match) barrel has a .473" steel core tensioned between centers with an outer sleeve. Tension is set at the factory. Removing or tampering with end caps voids warranty.

Do not use any metal items (bronze, brass or stainless steel) for cleaning carbon fiber barrels

A Word From Volquartsen on Barrel to Receiver Fit:

"We cut our barrel shanks oversized by .0025" to give us a very tight fit into the factory receiver. This tight fit prevents the barrel from canting downward as the locking block is installed."

I waited almost 15 years ...

I waited almost 15 years to trick out my 10/22 so I figured I would spare no expense. Fit and finish of this barrel is excellent. The carbon fiber really sets everything off. It is so much lighter than a regular stainless bull barrel it is incredible. I had no issues on installation, my rifle is about 13 years old so maybe tolerances were looser then, I don't know, but I it went right on with a few good whacks of a mallet. I have only put about 250rds of bulk ammo through it and 100 of CCI standard, and even with the bulk ammo it easily groups less than a half inch at 50yds. I cannot wait to see what match ammo will do. I was surprised that I didn't have more issues with feeding; the few that I did were caused by a new mag. Excellent product and service from Midway as always.

Superb barrel. Delivered 1/3" to 1/2" groups at 50 yds with Rem Club Xtra and CCI Green. Used Volquartsen cantilever scope mount with Leupold 2-7x.

Great Barrel! Wish I had ...

Great Barrel! Wish I had an excuse to buy just one more. And of course the Barrel Mounted Scope Base, Black. Loves the Remington Brass coated bullets for some reason.However my install went much easier. I just placed the barrel in the Fridge, ( you do have to watch the low temps, if I remember correctly) and later the action in the oven at 150 degrees, and low and behold a snug slip fit, for about 45 seconds. Just enough time to line them both up with a BUBBLE LEVEL. I used a vise with leather jaw cover, for the action. Another great V. product.

It's all true. For top ...

It's all true. For top accuracy in a 10/22, you need a top barrel. I never thought I would be able to afford a Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel, but this one went on sale at a moment when I was disgusted at the so-so groups of my last heavy "match" barrel. My usual M.O. with a new .22LR is to feed it 10 different types of shells to see what it prefers. 5-shot groups at 25 yards usually tell me what I need to know. In this case, I should have shot at 50 yards. In other words, the Volquartsen shot everything well. At 25 yards, all of the groups were dense and tight, with three groups (Federal Lightning 40gr. solid, Rem. Subsonic 38 gr. SUB22HP, Win. Power Point 40gr. X22LRPP) being single, ragged holes. The biggest hole of all 10 shells was 13/16". This barrel's extremely tight fit resulted in a gap above my Fajen stock's forearm. It looks like a full 1/8 of an inch to me. It made me realize just how canted downward my last aftermarket barrel was, and how much my scope had to be adjusted downward in elevation to accommodate. As a bonus, the whole rifle and scope combo now weighs only slightly more than the old barrel. I wish I had taken the advice of the earlier reviewer to chill the barrel and warm up the receiver before assembly. When I test-fit the new Volquartsen, the first third of the shank slid in easily enough, so I foolishly decided to go ahead with the installation. I lubed the mating surfaces with Rem-Oil and started to tap the muzzle with a rubber dead-blow mallet. Big mistake. Once I realized how difficult the job would be, it was too late to twist the barrel back out. It took a lot of careful tapping, twisting (metal receiver end only), and course correction with the retention wedge to seat the barrel squarely. My only qualm is the lack of a recessed muzzle crown. Also, Volquartsen's cleaning instructions say you shouldn't use any metal brushes, so my bronze-bristled Boresnake is apparently a no-no. I'll have to devise some type of soft pu

A clarification straight from Volquartsen: "The Boresnake is acceptable to use on our barrels. We do not recommend any wire brushes/rods that require them to be inserted from the muzzle end. As long as it is breech to muzzle that should be fine."

First the bad news. The ...

First the bad news. The instructions tell you to lubricate the shank and use a rubber mallet to drive the barrel home into the receiver. They ain't kidding. I lubricated both the barrel shank and the receiver with Imperial case resizing lube, known for its extreme lubricity. Remember Lizzie Borden, who gave her parents 40 whacks? Well this is similar, only it was more like 400 whacks before the barrel was fully seated. Has to use the rubber mallet, and I covered the barrel end cap with a rag before administering the whacks. Whew, what a chore.Now the good news. I never knew a 10/22 could shoot so incredibly well. After mounting the whole shootin' match into a Hogue overmold stock, I kind of half-@ssed bored sighted a Leupold 2.5-8 (or something in that range)x 40mm scope, then headed to an indoor range not known for its good lighting. Sending the target out to 25 yards just to see if I was on paper, I fired the first three rounds of CCI Green Tag. All three in one little hole about an inch and a half low and a half inch left of the x ring. Wow! Sent the target out to 50 yards, the max at the range, and fired 10 rounds of Wolf Match Target. Five or six in one little hole, the others spread out to make the entire group about one inch. After adjusting the scope to shoot dead on windage and about one inch high at 50, shooting Green Tags, Wolf, and common Remington Gold bullets kept everything within about 1 inch groups. Fun, fun, fun! When I can scrape together another $200, I'm going to order the Volquartsen 10/22 trigger assembly to replace that awful Ruger trigger! Buy this. You won't regret it; just remember to have patience installing it. Go slow and easy with it.
