The good: these rings are ...

The good: these rings are very well made and finished to a high level as one would expect from a Leupold product, particularly one that costs nearly $50. They are slender and elegant looking and make the rifle/scope combination look good. Based on my years of experience with quality Leupold products, I put these rings on both my Anschutz 1416DB in .22LR and my CZ452 Varmint in 17HM2. The bad: the rings failed to clamp the 11mm rails on both rifles with sufficient force to prevent scope "creep." At first, I torqued the base clamp screws at 20 in/lbs. (using purple Loctite), but the rings still slid forward under the minimal recoil produced by these calibers, resulting in constantly shifting POIs. Eventually, I increased the torque to 35 in/lbs and still had movement. This is really unacceptable and since it happened on two different rifles, I have to think that the problem lies with the clamping portion of the rings and is not attributable to any peculiarities with the respective rifles. I have since removed both sets of rings and replaced them with better arrangements. Since the receiver of the Anschutz is tapped, I used Weaver bases (#91) and Burris Signature Zee rings. On the CZ452 Varmint, the receiver is not tapped so I used a one-piece BKL mount (#261). So far so good. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with these rings. I expected better from Leupold.

Fit and finish is ...

Fit and finish is excellent. Seem to be very strong. Installed quickly and easily. Took a long time to ship, though. Nothing is perfect, so 4 stars.

Wonderful quality rings. ...

Wonderful quality rings. If you are buying these for a CZ-452, buy the high rings instead of the mediums. They are only a little taller and will allow the bolt handle to clear the eye piece better (mine was 1.5" diameter on a 3x9 scope). The only reason I did not give these 4 stars is the scope was not centered over the barrel like I would have expected. Oddly, this played to my advantage in that the bolt handle on my 452 would just bearly clear with the scope slightly to the left of center (dovetail mounting screws on the left side).

I'm very disappointed. ...

I'm very disappointed. This ring set does not fit my CZ 452 American. I believe that it is a 3/8 inch set in 11mm packaging. They are so narrow that they do not span the width of the 11mm groove, and although they will clamp onto the groove, they do so with a large cant toward the movable clamp side. Looks terrible. They fit my Marlin 982 (with 3/8 groove) very well. Leupold sent me another set. They are the same. Check the Midway pictures. The medium mounts look much narrower (clamping width) than the high mounts.

This is an update on my ...

This is an update on my previous review. I have discovered that apparently the groove width is measured differently in different places. My CZ452 American which supposedly has a 3/8 groove measures 0.502 inch across the top of the grooved area. The Leupold 13mm mounts fit very well. The 3/8 and 11mm mounts do not fit. My 3/8 inch groove on a Marlin measures 0.432 and a 10/22 grooved base measures 0.436. (That's very near 11mm.) The Leupold rings are very well made and now I have a set that fits.
