Product Information

Hornady's V-Max Bullets feature a polymer tip which enhances accuracy and promotes devastating expansion. The tip raises the ballistic coefficient for faster velocity and helps to stabilize the bullet in flight. It also acts as a wedge, initiating bullet expansion. The copper jacket provides the necessary bearing surface for maximum stability out of the barrel, and the jacket is built to withstand the fast twist rates of the most advanced varmint rifles. The 53 grain bullet features the same ogive as the 75 Grain Hornady V-Max bullet. A 1 in 12" twist rate or faster is recommended for optimal performance. This is not loaded ammunition.

OK for .30 Caliber Sabot filler.

I bought these bullets for use in relaoding .30 M1 Carbine cartridges using sabots to have a lighter bullet for plinking (varmint shooting is NOT permitted in my home location) at at range. So far I have loaded up 50 rounds but have not yet fired any. I will post a follow up review after I do fire them. I am also contemplating a .30 Carbine replacement barrel with 1:10 rifling to try also if the saboted bullets don't appear to be properly stabilized for accuracy.

Great bullet, I tested ...

Great bullet, I tested this specifically for ballistic coefficient (BC) in three rifles; two 7 twists and one 9 twist. Accuracy was good across the three rifles and comparable to some of my better match bullets. I did my B.C. testing at 400, 500 and 600 yards using a Nightforce scope that has had its adjustments and reticle verified to be true and I found the bullet to have a B.C. of .271 g1 which puts this light weight bullet above any other that I am aware of in this weight class. Compared to my 69 grain match load, it shoots flatter at the velocity I can obtain from my rifles at 600 but will be slightly more affected by the wind than the 69 grain I am currently using.

I wanted a load for coyotes (-20F) & prairie dogs (100F), so I loaded 8208 XBR and 53 V-Max. I have four .223 Rem/5.56 NATO's and this is the best load i have ever loaded. Shoots about 1" or less in all of them. Even a very worn 788 Rem does very consistent 1/2 inch 100 yd groups. AR 15's with 1 in 9 twist love them....but coyotes do not.

Another great bullet from Hornady. Have a single digit standard deviation load for my Savage .223 (1 in 9 twist) that consistently shoots in the .3s and .4s. The BC on this bullet puts it up there with the 68 and 69 as far as wind drift.

These are like candy for your ar15. I have a 20'' 1:9 twist barrel. I have used Blc2, tac, H335, and xbr 8208 with these so far, and have found very accurate loads with all. Have shot them out to 400 yards so far. They seem to buck the wind better than the 55gr v max. watch out coyotes and prairie dogs!

These bullets shoot better than the 50 and 55 grain Vmax out of my savage 1:12 twist 22-250. I can shoot 0.35" 5 shot groups at 100 and keep it under .8" at 200 yards! Im loading Varget at 0.010 of the lands. I have not had the chance to shoot them past 300 yet, but if you have a 1:12 twist barrel, don't hesitate to try these!

Very good bullet in the .223 or the 22-250. This B.C. is .290 !!! In the 22-250 I have a 1-12 twist and use IMR4064 and get 1/2'=34" at 200 yards every day. In the .223 I have a 1-9 twist and use IMR 8208 and get 1/2" at 100 and about 1moa at 200.

These bullets are awesome!! In the first run of test loads I found 2 loads that produced one ragged hole 3/8 inch, 5 shot groups. H335 and BL-C2 do the trick from my 24" heavy barrel AR-15.

These bullets are designed for the 223. the Same bullet used in the 223 superformance varmint loads. They are very accurate in my 1in 9 twist AR. They carry to 500 yards better than any other bullet I have shot. Much less drop. Very Good Bullets for the 1in 9 twist barrels.
