Product Information

Shaped for shooting comfort, the lever is angled slightly to keep the thumb from contacting the slide and has a double angle to fit the thumb perfectly. Ambidextrous Safety allows for operation with either the left or right hand, and Extended Safety features a wide thumb shelf for easier operation with the right hand. Both fit all 1911 frames and come with complete instructions. Requires fitting by a qualified gunsmith.

I bought this safety ...

I bought this safety because I shoot with both left and right hands, for training and shoots. at first blush this is a well made safety. The problem that I found with this put the safety on and off over and over. I had it installed by a very good gunsmith and with the constant use on the right side lever it will push the main safety lever out of the gun. I use a Para-Ordnance LTC commander's model. I am having my gun smith look at the safety again and will post another review if anything changes.

I bought this thumb ...

I bought this thumb safety because I am a lefty and shoot IDPA and IPSC. It is way better than the orignal narrow safeties found on the factory guns. I put it on a kimber 1911. I tried to install it by myself, then realized I needed a gunsmith to fit it properly. I have one on both my 1911 guns now.

Had this installed on my ...

Had this installed on my Springfield 1911-A1 by a gunsmith. You will need a skilled gunsmith to do the proper fitting so that the tension of the safety up and safety down settings are like the factory safety. The only negative point is that the lower edge of the right side of the safety has a rather sharp edge that hurts my webbing and needed to be ground off. Other than that the safety is a quality piece of equipment for this southpaw.

Overall, this safety is a ...

Overall, this safety is a well-made product. I am no gunsmith, but I installed it in my Kimber Gold Match with only minor filing and polishing. It functions well and the nice, wide levers make good thumb rests. I would have awarded this safety five stars had it not been for the sharp edges aft of the pivot pin on the right lever. After blending with a Dremel tool followed by touch-up with Birchwood Casey bluing, the hazard to the web of my left thumb is gone. I would have awarded four stars, except I belatedly remembered having one of these Brown safeties installed on a Colt Gold Cup several years ago. It had the same design flaw. Ed Brown should have cured the problem a long time ago. Still, if you are a leftie looking for a safety with a lot more surface area than the sorry excuse Kimber installs, this is a good choice.
