Technical Information:

Post 2003 Production: The original cylinder utilized a removable cylinder bushing.

1978-2003 Production: The original cylinder utilized an integral cylinder bushing however this cylinder will fit once a cylinder bushing is purchased and fit by a qualified gunsmith.

Excellent Colt SAA .45 ...

Excellent Colt SAA .45 ACP cylinder to add new capability to my Generation 3 .45 Long Colt SAA. The bluing is as excellent as my original cylinder. You will also need to purchase the Colt Base Pin Bushing #380973 to complete and fit the cylinder. The fitting of the cylinder is probably best left to a gunsmith, but if handy you can do it yourself as I did. Use your original cylinder dimensions to determine the exact length the base bushing needs to be shortened. My SAA needed the bushing to be decreased in length 0.010". You can easily do this in a mini lathe or even use a drill press. I also needed to take off 0.001 from the rear sprocket to produce a 0.003" cylinder to barrel gap. Light sanding on a flat metal surface removed the 0.001" metal necessary. Your gun's dimensions may be different than mine. The cylinder .45 ACP throat diameters are 0.453". Yeah, that's larger than desired, but it's a Colt, what can you do. My new cylinder fits in perfectly and the gun shoots like a dream. Having the option of the .45 ACP allows use of low cost and defensive performance ammo as desired. Adding this cylinder increased the utility of my SAA and probably the investment value.
