This thing is build like a tank. It's about 9.5 mm thick! It will NOT work on a commercial diameter stock. If your buffer tube measures 1.17 inches in diameter, this will not work. If you have a mil-spec buffer tube(1.14"), you need this.

I like the wrench is 3/8 thick. Also, the "fingers" that engage the nut are ~.2 thick, which is nice since the rest of wrench slides over the body of nut and makes it more stable. What I didn't like was the wrench did not fit the "gaps" in the nut. I have a LMT lower with the factory SOPMOD Stock, so it should be mil-spec. The gaps on the nut were .163 wide and the wrench "fingers" measured from .169-.174. So I used a file on the wrench to thin the fingers and then used a coat of paint. I also didn't like the square opening which I thought was for a torque wrench. I didn't measure it so it could be for 3/4" drive, but it's definitely bigger than a 1/2" drive.

I had previously used a smaller, thinner lock ring wrench for removing buffer tubes, etc. However I came upon a castle nut that wouldn't budge and after slightly buggering the wrench, nut, and the threads on the tube, I ordered this heavier duty version. It worked instantly! Since then I have used it on other rifles, including a few with staked castle nuts. I highly, highly recommend this wrench.

This is a solid wrench, but it required about an hour with a file to remove burrs and get it to fit the nut.

Certainly heavy duty, but did not fit my castle nut at all. Will take some filing/grinding to make it work, but then it should last a lifetime since it's so thick and heavy!

Like others have stated, this wrench does not fit mil spec castle nuts on a LMT Defender and Smith and Wesson M&P 15. These ARE mil spec rifles with mil spec equipment. I had to spend considerable time filing down the teeth to fit both rifle castle nuts in order to configure both rifle with a fixed stock. Regardless of what others say, this wrench will not fit LMT or Smith and Wesson castle nuts.

DPMS states the castle nut is the same on both their Commercial and Mil Spec buffer tubes. One gun sales site stated the slots must be .185" wide on your castle nut to use this wrench. I knew mine was a little narrower when I ordered it. I used a Dremel with a stone on the lagging edge of the three slots till it went into my castle nut slots. I have a very thin nut wrench with one slot and was fearful it may break off, so this heavy duty wrench has three thick slots and will last a lifetime. Great! I gave it 5 stars even though I had to modify it.
