The Shorty Lock only has ...

The Shorty Lock only has to be filed if the 1/8" Shorty ramp is used. The other, higher ramps have a recess for the top of the block. If the other ramps are used, no fitting is required.

Really ineffective ...

Really ineffective solution. Needed a ramp for a higher front sight but only had a dovetail, so I picked this up and a Williams Shorty Ramp so that I could do it myself without a trip to a gunsmith.Lock goes into the dovetail okay, ramp screws on okay, but knocking the sight into the ramp loosens the screw, at which point the front sight is on top of it. Catch 22.Save your $5 to go towards paying a gunsmith to install a solid ramp properly.

I have used the Shorty ...

I have used the Shorty block on three .22 rifles. The front sights are secure and the rifles shoot great. You have to use the Williams sight pusher to install the front sight into the dovetail! Using a punch will not work as the block is not as secure as a standard dovetail. However, this is not a typical dovetail installation so you should not expect it to work like a one-piece dovetail sight. Yes, the block may need some filing to fit but if I can do it, anyone should be able to do it.

Tried this with 3/16" ...

Tried this with 3/16" Shorty ramp. It would not fit under the ramp without serious filing. Then proved to be too flimsy to hold ramp firmly to barrel. This product is a good try at a simple solution but it did not work for me.
