The Lee 18-Cavity 00 Buckshot Mold is a great choice for reloaders looking for a quality mold at an affordable price. Now you can produce 00 Buckshot ammunition for less than the cost of a standard trap load. The mold blocks are machined from aluminum, so they are rust resistant. The aluminum molds heat up and cool down faster than iron or steel molds, and they are one-third the weight of iron or steel mold blocks. A lighter weight mold means you will have less fatigue during extended casting sessions. Weights given are Lee's weights with suggested alloy; actual weight may vary due to the alloy mixture used. Handles are not included. This mold uses Lee's standard 6 cavity mold handles (Item# 117-892).

I cast my own bullets and slugs and now buckshot with Lee moulds exclusively. I have done this since about 1997. I'm no expert, but the complaints I've read about this mould all stem from operator error. I had a breaking in period with this mould but after I learned I can cast buckshot faster than I can shoot them. It's a great mould I think Lee hit a homerun with this one.

Pros - drops 18 buckshot pellets per casting.Cons - the pellets when cast are connected in groups of 3, which requires them to be cut with a utility knife or other type of blade. Plus this mold DOES NOT come with handles which is another expense. Need Lee's long mold handles.I like Lee molds and have several calibers, but this 18 cavity buckshot mold was a dud in my opinion. Instead, after returning this product what I now use is the Lee .350 diameter round ball mold for muzzleloaders. The 350 diameter is between 00 and 000 buckshot size. The 2 cavity round ball mold is less than a third of the price, comes with handles and drops 2 balls at once that do not require them to be cut and separated as is the case with this 18 cavity mold. Its nice to cast 18 pellets at once, but the roundball mold is much more easier and just as quick at a third of the price and comes with handles. Also I am still able to pack 9 pellets per 12 ga shell with the 350 round ball just like the 00 pellets this mold casts.

The reviewers having problems with this mold not filling out all the cavities are squeezing the handles. Your dealing with aluminum, leverage and a very very small hole to allow the lead to get to the bottom cavities. DO NOT squeeze the handles! They would give this 5 stars if they knew not to squeeze the handles.....

This mold makes some nice buckshot however, the metal tab for the handle on the sprue cutter snapped right off on the 4th or 5th batch of buckshot. I was using my hands to open it and it just snapped. I loosened the bolt and took it off and kept pouring without the sprue plate and the mold still works great.

Wasn't really impressed with this molds performance until it heated up, then, HOLY COW it makes buckshot fast. It needs to be hotter than any other mold I have to work. Also found that if I drop the 3 pellet chains on to a slanted board that lets them slide or roll into a bucket of water most of the chains have at least one pellet broke off when I pour the water off to collect them

I got a only a %10 reject rate on the first use. Try two things. 1) Smoke the cavities heavily with a wooden match 2) Use a lot of pressure when pouring lead. (Keep pouring hot lead on each hole till it spills over the sides) Try it, you'll see.

All the complaints I read here on this product are rookie complaints. I have several 6 cavity molds from Lee and they all run fine. This mold does not need extra hot alloy. It needs a well pre-heated mold temperature and a brisk casting cadence as all 6 cavity molds do. An experienced caster can cast too fast with a 6 cavity mold and overheat it also. Timing of steps and watching sprues to determine when to open this mold is critical as with all 6 cavity molds. A beginner or a poorly skilled caster that doesn't follow directions should expect a mess. A knowledgeable and skilled caster will have no problems with this Buckshot mold.

I would have given this mold 5 stars but I think it's ridiculous that it doesn't come with the handles you need. This is by far the most expensive Lee mold I own and no handles. I was so mad in fact that I refused to buy them. I took handles off an old Lee mold I don't use and welded arms on them to work with this one. Now it works great. If youre looking for a mold to give you 18 perfect pellets every time this isn't it. But any experienced bullet caster can just look at this mold and tell you that. But I consistently get 16 or so every time. The trick to big molds like this is to keep your lead very hot. That and don't even bother if youre using a ladle. Must have a production pot for this one.

This mold is a Lee failure. Only the top cavity will fill out. It is essentially a 6 cavity mold.

Works great with proper mold prep. Can't beat this mold for speed when it comes to making buckshot! I wish they would make other size buckshot in 18 cavity also. I fill each of the 6 cavities then run a line of lead across the sprue plate to connect them all so that I only have one chunk of sprue to drop back into the pot. Only issue was having to order the handles separate, got them on sale for cheap though.

I can't say this is the best mold I ever got from Lee. Working with this mold and keeping it a good casting temperature is not easy. I never get a complete fill in each cavity. The ball on the top of the string is flat topped and missing about 25% of its weight. The middle ball is the only one I can get to cast at a consistent weight. The bottom ball is usually perfect if it fills. I think Lee bit off a bit more than they could chew with this one. All said and done I can usually get 6 to 10 good buck shot out of this mold per cast and that's better than nothing.
