The Lyman Outside Neck Turner was designed for use with Lyman's Universal Trimmer and AccuTrimmer. It provides uniform case neck wall thickness and outside neck diameter. Essential for case reforming. Adjustable cutter removes minimum brass to attain uniformity. Cutter blade can be adjusted to any diameter from .195 to .405.

I like this case neck ...

I like this case neck trimmer. Set up wasn't hard. However, you should put just a bit of lube on the inside of the neck. This makes turning it on the mandrel a lot easier if your necks are tight.

This product has lasted me for years. That's because I switched to a K & M neck turner quite a while ago. Lyman makes fine products. This isn't one of them. You can't see the cartridge neck when you are turning, and it's difficult to set up. I would consider Hornady's new model if I didn't already have the K & M. It looks better than the K & M!

This is probably not the best tool for this job. It's trying to make a tool that was made for case trimming into a tool for neck turning and it doesn't work very well. I found it difficult to set up, and not very easy to use.

I have heard that neck turning was a pain. I figured I would give the Lyman turner a try as I have been happy with the Lyman Trimmer for almost 30 years. I admit it takes a little time to get the cutter set to the right depth, but once it is there it works great. I have used both the hand crank and the drill adapter and the results with the drill adapter are much better and faster. I have turned about 500 cases so far and I can turn about 100 cases an hour.

Purchases this neck ...

Purchases this neck turner eight years ago. Tried using it one time on LC 5.56 Nato cases. Goal was to uniform case wall thickness not reduce overall neck thickness. Since I don't have a tight neck match chamber. Results were terrible. The round cutter required too much tool pressure. It would ride over the high spots I was trying to remove without cutting in. Once you turned in enough pressure to cut it would jump in to remove way too much material. Due to tool flex. So much that my dies wouldn't resize the necks. Plus the finish was irregular. Failure rate was 100%. Military surplus brass is harder than commercial but it's the reclaimed brass that needs uniforming. I can't see where any brands of these round bit cutters would give anything buy poor results. I now use the Sinclair neck turner.

Difficult to set up, set ...

Difficult to set up, set screws too small, strip easily when trying to lock mandrel in place (mandrel keeps coming out, ruining cases). I successfully removed .002 from 3 cases out of 10 (Lapua 220 Russian converting to 6mm PPC), damaged other 7!!

Once this is set up, it does a nice job of cutting the neck. I found it not too hard to set up.Take your time and read the instructions.
