Product Information

These revolutionary bullets from Barnes are made of 100% copper and contain no lead. When the bullet expands, four razor-sharp cutting petals are created, allowing the bullet to penetrate farther through tough bone and tissue. These bullets usually retain 100% of their original weight, making them a superb choice for hunting. Barnes recommends initially seating bullets 0.050" off the lands. Best accuracy will be found from 0.030" to 0.070" depending on the rifle. This is not loaded ammunition.

Best accuracy so far. Loaded these up for a Marlin 336 using Ramshot TAC. Consistently grouped under an inch at 100 yards (Leupold 2-7, sandbagged on a concrete bench). The best I could get with Hornady Leverloution was about 3 inches. Federal blue box was grouping under 2 inches as a comparison. On game performance hasn't been tested yet so only 4 stars.

We have to use copper ...

We have to use copper bullets for hunting here in California. I decided to try these 30-30 Barnes bullets since Barnes have worked so well for me in other calibers. I have to say that these are the most disappointing bullets I have ever tried. In both my Marlin 336XLR Ballard and 336SDT Microgroove they just sprayed all over the place. 6" groups in both guns. I tried different powders, powder charges, primers, ect. with all the same results in both scoped guns. I am VERY disappointed I wasted all that powder, money, and time. My 336XLR shoots 1" groups with home cast bullets from wheel weights and less than 1" with Sierra bullets.

Have a bunch of this type of bullet and got them to use in a reduced loaded 308 WIN for short range deer hunting.. was told they would open up at 1200+ and well used Trail Boss to get the lower speed and at 75 yards in to a 15 gallon barrel of water it definitely opened up very nicely ... now just have to use them in a hunting situation still using trail boss max charge for this type of bullet and at 75 yards they are about 1.5-2.0 " and at 40 yards they are 1.25" very good for what I plan on using them for...

Well, I can't post exact load data but I was using Starter loads for the heavier 170 bullets from the Lee reloading manual. My reasoning is the Barnes all copper 150 grain bullets are much longer, I remember reading in a reloading manual about reducing loads in this case. Even with the lower load it was hitting 8" high at 100 yards but in a 3" group. I think I need to refine the load for these. Just goes to show you MUST zero each new load you work up.

I loaded this under standard load data and trimmed to standard lengths. Rifle was a 336xlr in 30-30. Range length was 100 yds. I noticed that the wind carried this off course easily causing erratic patterns all under 5 inches. Compared it against a Evolution round in 165gr. this round landed -4" and 1.5" to the lower left of the evolution round. The round has incredible penetration and devastating path in gel. It would be a good near round for dangerous game or for a head shot on that close target. It might destroy too much meat to be of value in thin skinned game. It loads great and is a sweet looking round of all copper. It is a bit pricey, over twice the cost of the evolution round. In short, good on near game that might eat ya.

I loaded these for my son's 30-30 in front of IMR3031. He wanted to see if the bullets would mushroom like the ads said. I set five 1-gallon jugs of water end to end to retrieve the bullet. When I shot into the jugs, they all reacted violently. The bullet expanded to the size of a quarter(from what I could tell by recovered petals in three separate jugs). The shank continued in a straight path through all 5 jugs. Almost 30 inches of water penetration....from a 30-30! If you are looking for the absolute best hunting bullet, look no farther than Barnes.

I use this bullet in a 308 Win handgun @ 2650 fps. I've bench fired it out to 300 yds and it's very accurate. Wind deflects it a bit more than std TSX's @ long range. Every deer and hog I've shot with it had massive internal and exit wound damage. It performs better than I expected.
