I really like this load. It is lighter than standard slugs, so it is much faster and flat shooting. I got one inch groups at 50 yards, using an H&R rifled single shot with a red dot sight. The same gun with standard slugs only grouped at 3 inches. The Remington Core-Lokts act more like a rifle cartridge than a slug.

Although they are very accurate at 100 yards and beyond, there is one suggestion I will make. DO NOT LET A YOUTH OR ANYONE WHO DOES NOT HOLD THEIR GUN TIGHT TO THEIR SHOULDER USE THESE ROUNDS ! I have NEVER seen a shotgun slug kick as much as these rounds do. It's like firing a cannon . I'm an excellent shooter and after firing 10 rounds sighting in my sons 870 with rifle sights, with a thin hard rubber recoil pad, I knew I would never let him use these mules. I then proceeded to try them in my 1187 with a cantilever scope . Thinking that the recoil would be somewhat less in my semi proved to be wrong . My shoulder already felt like I had been kicked by a mule 10 times sighting in the 870. Once again, although the Remington Ultra is accurate , I find the recoil is a huge negative and magnum round is not necessary for deer hunting . If I was hunting bear or moose , it might be a round I would consider.

Good accurate slug but beware, they kick!!! I will probably go back to Remington's Copper Solid, accuracy and performance just as good with less kick.

I'm very pleased with ...

I'm very pleased with this slug. My H&R Super Slugger rifled barrel loves these, and produces less than 2" groups at 100yds. I had been using another brand of sabot (that were a 3/4 the price of these) that gave me similar accuracy. However the other brand didn't have the terminal performance I wanted (no exit holes on many deer shot). I shot a huge doe with the Remington a few days ago; and she ran about 20 yds. Initially I was disapointed that I didn't get an exit wound either, but the deer was quartering hard to me and it turned out the slug broke the shoulder bone and traveled the entire legnth of the deer...stopping under the skin of the hind quarter! I retrieved the slug and it had nearly 100% weight retention and mushroomed 2X diameter (just as advertised). I'll be using these from now on. an additional $1 per shot is worth it if it means performance like this.

Too many fliers out of a Remington 870. The sabots separate from the bullet very inconsistently. Groups were very loose. Shoot good out of a Mossberg 500, dropped a small six in its tracks.

I have tried Win. Partition Gold, Hornady SST and these. I got little under a 1in. group off a bench and the Caldwell Lead Sled. This at 50 yds at 100 2in group. I shoot a Rem. 870 cantilever and a Nikon scope.

I use a Remington 11-87 ...

I use a Remington 11-87 with a rifled, cantilever barrel. I have tried almost every 12 ga. sabot on the market. Several of the slugs I used had decent accuracy but performed poorly on deer. Some damaged a lot of meat, coming apart upon impact with poor penetration. If you have ever had to track a deer for several hundred yards after hitting it perfectly, then you know how frustrating this can make your hunt. With the Core-Lokt Ultra slugs I have never had this problem after several kills. The farthest any deer have traveled after being hit is about ten yards with most dropping in their tracks. One particular 180+ lb. eight point that dropped in his tracks was found to be 208 yards from where I was sitting when I used my laser rangefinder to range the distance back across the bean field to the tree where I had been sitting. Please practice at longer range before attempting shots at this maximum range and use a good rest. These slugs consistently produce under 2" groups at 100 yards from my particular Remington 11-87 cantilever barrel. I had good luck with the Hornady SST also but the Hornady's are only 300 grains, so their performance drops off much more after a hundred yards compared to the 385 grain Remington Core-Lokt Ultras. The extra 85 grains of weight adds greatly to the terminal energy at the longer ranges and the trajectory is virtually identical to the best performing lighter slugs. I tried Remingtons latest and greatest polymer tipped slugs that cost more but their accuracy failed to beat the Core-Lokt Ultras in my particular gun.

Just got back from the ...

Just got back from the range. I tried Win Part Gold (2 3/4 & 3") and Core-Lockt.I sighted my red dot in at the 50 with cheaper slugs WinX I think.Then went to the 100yrd with the others. I knew that my gun would not be sighted in for these, but I was just looking for groupings.Both Win 2 3/4" & 3" were shooting low and to the right. Mostly low though. The Core-Lockt were dead on. I was shooting all of them dead on with no hold over.The trajectory was super flat.This is only for my gun though. Yours might be different.

I have a rem. 870 and it ...

I have a rem. 870 and it had terrible accuracy until I tried this slug. Now I have 3" groups at 100 plus yards and I have shot over 7 deer with this slug. All 7 of the deer dropped dead in their tracks with one shot including a 13 point at 136 yards. Pros. It kills them dead and is accurate in my slug gun. Cons. They kick like a mule.

Very impressed with ...

Very impressed with performance of this round. Good accuracy from Rem 870 rifled barrel. Terminal performance was all I could ask for on medium sized doe. It dropped in it's tracks.
