A. O. Niedner, an early 20th century gunsmith and rifle maker, is the name that most often comes up when discussing checkered steel buttplates and grip caps. Today, Miles Gilbert produces essentially the same product, but with advanced technology making them more affordable than the original hand-made models. Key features are 24 line per inch checkering, a 1/16" border and a pointed heel spur on the top of the buttplate. Parts come blued and include attaching screws.
