This lightweight aluminum shotshell holder attaches to the shotgun receiver. If not specified in the description, the mount attaches to the left side of the receiver. Requires a forend that does not overlap the receiver.

I ran this for two years ...

I ran this for two years on my 870P with no problems until I ran ~100 rounds of slugs one day a few weeks ago and sheared the forward mounting screw and found the sidesaddle dangling down mid magazine. I had probably 1000 rounds or so on the sidesaddle in total in two years with no problems. I searched the internets and apparently this hardware failure is quite common with the Mesa Tactical sidesaddle and lots of guys are going away from them since they don't hold up under hard use. I spent a month emailing and calling MT for replacement hardware with no luck so now I have a sidesaddle with no hardware. One star for poor customer service on MT's part. Product iteslf would be four stars. I finally decided to trash it and go with the Vang Comp shell carrier, hopefully it will hold up and Hans Vang will stand behind it if/when it breaks.

I agree with all the 5 Star reviews below. Pins were a little tight fit probably due to my 'Marine' finish, but went in fine with a little persuasion. Need to use a shorter forend, I used old style Remington (Midway Product #: 954267), although I think it would be possible to easily modify the standard forend, or even the newer 'shurshot' forends.

I have this on the left ...

I have this on the left side and the 4 round on the right side of my Nighthawk 870. Add that to a 6 round mag tube and you have 16 + 1 rounds of ammo in hand when you grab your shotgun. These shell carriers are head and shoulders above the competition. You get what you pay for quality! Side note: I kept mine loaded for too long and the elastomer deformed, a quick call to Mesa and had a new insert sent for no charge! Great product, great customer service, what more could you ask for??

With all metal construction, a serial number cutout, stainless steel pins, and a rubber rib inside the shell tubes to provide a secure hold, this is probably the best shotshell carrier on the market. I have bought the Tacstar product for about 1/3 of the price but after repeated removals to clean inside the trigger assembly, the pin screws eventually stripped out the plastic mounting base. Spend the money on this product now, and chances are, you'll never have to buy another.

Excellent product; best ...

Excellent product; best sidesaddle out there. Has withstood abuse similar to that which broke a composite constructed sidesaddle with only minor marring to the aluminum finish. The sidesaddle has a rubber insert which protected the 870 receiver parkerizing from any damage/ rubbing. Unsure of the method the purchaser from Modesto used to contact Mesa Tactical, but upon the purchase of a second unit the front standoff wasn't fully threaded. I called Mesa and they had an entire new install kit sent to me that day, asking only for my name and mailing address. Only possible drawback I can see is 870's with sidesaddles won't fit in some vehicle racks.
