XS Express Big Dot front sight features a green Tritium insert surrounded by a thick white line. The Tritium vial improves low light shooting and the large white outline makes daytime sight acquisition fast. This sight is designed to be epoxied onto the factory #6 sight bead on a pedestal, often on factory 18-1/2" barrels.

This sight is amazing. Target acquisition is almost instantaneous and accurate. You wont have any trouble aiming with your submissive eye, so eye dominance problems associated with rifle sights diminishes significantly. From daylight to dawn to complete darkness, you are able to spot this sight without having to think about it. I was slightly skeptical on how well this would mount to my barrel over the existing bead, but with some JB weld kwikset and a little brain power I think I have this as permanently mounted as I desired. There's no question in my mind that the most aggressive recoil of a shotgun could come nowhere near knocking this off. Maybe if I was using my shotgun barrel to forcibly search gopher and snake holes in the hard dirt, I could knock the sight off, but it would take a fairly serious beating without coming off. The contour of the base of this sight doesn't fit the remington pedestal perfectly flush, which I figure would enable it to fit on other similar shotgun bead sights like this old JC higgins/sears shotgun I have, though it works great on my 11-87 police barrel.

I purchased this XS Sight Systems front sight for use on a Remington 870 Express with an 18-1/2 inch barrel and a factory-installed #6 bead sight on a pedestal. The tritium insert and white outline do indeed appear to have potential for improving low-light sight-acquisition speed; however, I was disappointed with this sight's fit and finish. This sight fits over the top of the factory-installed bead well enough, but the profile of this sight's base does not match the profile of the bead sight's pedestal. Thus, the only contact point of this sight with the pedestal is the relatively small area of the pedestal near the bead, leaving the rear of this sight suspended over the rear of the pedestal. The result is an appearance of poor fit and finish. Also, since much of this sight does not make contact with the pedestal, I'm rather dubious about the ability of epoxy over such a small area of actual contact to withstand the punishing recoil of a 12-gauge shotgun. I returned this sight to MidwayUSA prior to installation with epoxy, and will continue to use the factory bead sight while looking for something better. I would have given this sight a one-star rating; however, as noted above, the tritium insert and white outline are indeed easy to pick up in low-light conditions.
