I have a Ruger m77 ultra ...

I have a Ruger m77 ultra light in .257 Roberts and shot a couple deer with the partition bullet. I found it to be accurate but I was not pleased with its performance. I shot a 100lbs 3 point at about 75 yards and he went down. He stood back up and started walking away. I shot him again in the next and dropped him. I recovered the first bullet in the far shoulder plate after broadside shot and little far forward (not the best placement). I bullet folded back but the front partition lead was gone. The copper folded back and did not make a mushroom. I also shot another small doe and did not get pass through on all three shots. I switched to the Hornady 117 grain SST LightMags, now Superformance and couldnt be happier. I have shot about 15 deer and only recovered one bullet, everything else was pass through. I was just a little disappointed at the Nosler.

My son and I both use this ammo. It patterns great and is deadly on Tennessee deer!! The best load we have shot in both of our guns. Several "drop them in their tracks" shots! We love it. .257 Roberts is an awesome caliber. I have let a lot of children shoot our and they all like it over the .243.

This load works wonderfully in my Ruger M77 and my 14 year old sons Ruger Mark II. Wickedly good bullet, adequate velocity, minimal recoil makes this an excellent deer cartridge.

The gentleman from Texas should consider the problem he mentions is NOT the ammunition, but instead with his rifle. I am usually inclined to consider postings about the accuracy of any ammunition product with a grain of salt. For one: The shooter is likely to be the biggest factor in results on paper. And, in the review from the gentleman from Texas it is most likely a problem with rifling twist rate (keyholed bullet holes). Probably, he would be best off trying a .257 Roberts round firing a lighter 100 grain bullet. And, I would hope that resolves his problem with the gun. That said, the Federal Premium ammunition is some of the most consistently accurate ammunition, from gun-to-gun and caliber to another, that I have shot. My own rifle, a rebarreled M77 MKII short action with a Douglas 22" Douglas medium-heavy profile produces groups averaging 1.3" center to center, and avg. chronographed velocities hit 2781 f.p.s. with this Federal .257 Roberts load. I have taken 4 mule deer with the gun and this load. One was a tremendous 6x5 that field dressed at over 300 pounds. The Nosler 120 grain Partition went through both shoulders at 220 paces. He went down at the shot, and was expired by the time we reached him. Also, I have taken dozens of smaller Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas whitetail, both bucks and does, with this load. All were one shot kills. Rarely will a deer go more than 50 yards after being hit with this load. From witnessing in the field, I believe the .257 Roberts is far, more effective than the various 6mm cartridges, including the 240 Weatherby. In my opinion, the .257 Roberts loaded with a 120 grain Nosler Partition is one of the most sensible mule deer and whitetail cartridges available. Unlike some bigger, higher-velocity cartridges, it is not overly destructive to valuable venison, either. To date, I have used only this cartridge for hunting with my .257 Roberts, though a few others on the range shooting paper. I have no intention o

I have personally taken several deer and hogs over the years with my Ruger M77 and Leupold Vari-X II 3X9. To my recollection, not one single animal traveled more than 40 yards with most dropping on the spot. One example of a bullet pulled from a mule deer taken in Colorado. The bullet hit the facing buck in the shoulder knuckle; continuing through the chest, popped through the diaphragm, then slid between hide and belly muscle for a foot or so. The bullet weighed just over 80 grains. If I'm not hand loading; this is the ammo to use. I highly recommend it!!!

Shot a 15" pronghorn ...

Shot a 15" pronghorn antelope with this load in my Win. M70 pre-64 this year up on the Red Wall north of Casper in the South Big Horn Mountains. my buddies and I measured the range at 411 yards with a rangefinder before the shot. With a little hold over (the Wyoming wind wasn't blowing), the bullet hit dead on at the sternum. It then penetrated all the way through the big antelope, exiting on the right hindquater. He went about 100 yards after the hit, all within sight. Coming up on him for recovery, we noticed that the 120 grain Nosler had left a noticeable blood trail through the sage and grass. One of my buddies followed the blood trail back to the place where he was hit, while I was doing the field prep to drag the goat out to the truck about a mile away. The blood trail led right up to the impact spot, as my friend got to looking at the ledge behind where the buck was hit and found the spent bullet laying in the sandy soil. It is mushroomed out to .51" at its widest point. It weighed 101 grains on my uncle's RCBS scale. I'm impressed.

I've been using this ...

I've been using this round in my Remington 700 Classic for several years now for deer hunting. Im so pleased with the results of this round that its the only gun I ever use. The Vital Shocks really do the job well. Id highly recommend this ammo.
