Poor fit and finish. If ...

Poor fit and finish. If its not a MIM part, its a casting and not a very good one at that. Took very little sanding to get the safety to actually fit and block the sear, but took forever to sand the safety plunger to fit. Either the plunger was too long, or the safety wasn't drilled deep enough. Either way I had to take off quite a bit of metal on the plunger. The hole is probably misdrilled too, because only half of the plunger engages in the on/off detents. The safety will move up far enough to positively engage in the safe position, but the plunger won't fully engage its detent which bugs me quite a bit. Even after After many hours of sanding and filing, I can't get it to move up fullyThe safety plunger is also is not pinned in the safety, which makes it bit of a pain to get in, and introduces the possibility of losing small spring-loaded parts when disassembling. The claim is that it improves the feel of the safety, but it seems to me like skipping a step in manufacturing to keep it cheap.Some of the dimensions are also off from the factory part. When in 'safe' the lower portion frame slot which the safety rides in is exposed, unlike the factory part. Once fitted, the safety does work, is easier to operate than the small factory part, and has a much more positive feel to it. I have not managed to get it where I would like, and considering how much time I've put into it, I've given up on trying to get it just right. Yes, the part does work, but I was hoping for a little higher quality part.

I'm generally happy with the product. It works, and works better than the original safety. The instructions should have a diagram or tell you to observe the action of the safety relative to the sear by looking down through the frame. The dab of paint did little to clarify where to file.Tensioning the loose detent pin was the hardest. The provided spring was way too long and seemed too heavy. Had to go get another spring.

Not at all a replacement ...

Not at all a replacement for a polished blue Hi-Power. Finish is very rough and as others have said not a bright blue color. Also the detent pin is not staked or otherwise held in place. When you reassemble this can be quite a pain. Spring was way too long as well.

A definite improvement ...

A definite improvement over the factory BHP thumb safety, but far from perfect. Unfortunately, the safety does not stick out much further than the original and the safety itself is fairly sharp and can be a bit uncomfortable to activate (deactivation is comfortable). Does require a small amount of gunsmithing to fit right, but nothing you can't do with a file and/or sandpaper. All in all this is a solid product, but I think the wide target safety by Cylinder & Slide is a better fit if you want any real improvement. On another note, the finish does not match my BHP very well at all. It has almost a purplish hue to the bluing - sticks out like a sore thumb. C&S could do a much better job with not only the color, but the overall finish of the safety.

The Browning cylinder and ...

The Browning cylinder and slide extension is much easier to use than the factory lever; but do not attempt to install this without fully understanding how to field strip your weapon, and then re-assemble it. Although I had no problems, I was extremely cautious the next time I loaded the weapon.

It takes a bit of work to get it in there, but once you do it is great. If you are afraid of filing or stoning parts to fit....skip it, but if you can follow directions (included) and take your time this is a great product.
