The RCBS Ram Priming Unit is a great priming tool for reloaders who want to prime on the upstroke for maximum sensitivity. This unit does exactly what it was designed to do, seat primers. However, using it in a press provides way too much power and your adjustments need to be properly set so that you won't destroy the primer and/or case. It is also horribly slow and, at least in my RCBS press, it is somewhat difficult to insert the primer into the cup on the seating rod without removing the rod which would be easy enough but would add time to the already lengthy process. Contrary to a previous gentleman's review, I don't find that this unit provides a good "feel" when seating the primer but rather vague instead. As mentioned before, it is a solid unit and it works with minimal parts. If you don't mind a slow priming procedure then this is a decent priming option but, in my opinion, not the best one.

I've used this system exclusively for around 30 years. It seats the primers squarely. I can feel the primer bottoming in the pocket, and I adjust the ram stroke so that the primers are very slightly flattened after full seating. Priming is a slow process with this in a single-station press, but the results are uniformly perfect. I have so far loaded over 300,000 rounds with this method. Loading the primers into the cup is a matter of dexterity, and 'touching' the primers has turned out to be of no concern when using clean hands. I've recently shot ammunition that I had reloaded with 'touched' primers and gave to a relative 40 years ago, and it all performed normally.

I have been using this priming set up for about 20 years. It works as well as others have said. You learn to feel the primer as it seats. I usually don't seat it all the way and will pull the brass out and visually inspect how much more it needs to be seated and then tighten it when it is right. Someone said it is hard to put the primers in the little cup. It is quite easy to put them in by laying the primer on the shell holder and then raising the cup and then simply shoving the primer over the edge into the cup. It's really simple. If you prime slowly you can also feel it if the primer is going in incorrectly (sideways). The trick is to not get in a hurry. I also rotate the brass about a half turn and then reseat in order to make sure it is going in evenly.

This is an excellent priming device. The way that I have mine configured is to seat the primer at the top of the press stroke. This allows the small cup that holds the primer to protrude above the shell holder a small amount making it easy to place a primer in the cup. The second thing this configuration allows is a very consistent seating of the primer which also translates to consistant ignition, however this configuration maximizes the mechanical advantage of the press and makes it easy to crush primers if not properly setup. What I have done to resolve this is replaced the lock ring with lee's locking ring (Midway Part# 334374) to allow easy adjustment of the seating depth of the primer. This is not the fastest priming device I have used but of the 4 different priming devices that I have used this one is my favorite.

I have been using this for about a year now and will never prime any other way.I would like to address the comments about it being slow,if you're in a hurry you should buy factory. Also as far as feel its the best in my opinion,"ive tried many different ways of priming".If you ream primer pockets to uniform depth as any good reloader should,depth of seating and positive stop feel is not an issue.Crushing is not an issue either.Once again speed is for the race track.RCBS has a winner here.I might add that i have had some small RCBS parts break in the past on other products"not often"RCBS customer service is top notch understanding and knowledgeable and will usually replace parts free of charge.For those small parts that are bound to break keep a few spares.Five stars for good reason thanks RCBS.

I've been using one of these for at least 12 years. Once you get the first primer seated to the correct depth, the rest will be very consistent. I seat when the lever is all the way down. I don't like to "feel" the primer seat; instead, I set it up for a specific depth using a caliper. Make sure the primer pockets are clean, and seat to the end of the press stroke. I don't care if it's slow-I use a single stage press for a reason-to get the most consistent and accurate ammo I can.
