I would not buy this particular case again for 45 acp. My comments may not apply to other calibers. The lower half is a little tall, so that when you put a fired case back in, it falls below the level of the top and you have to turn the case over to shake it out. If the bottom were short enough that you could get a fingernail under the rim to lift out a spent case, it would be a better product. This case is made with a rigid plastic. I have other MTM slip top cases that are made with the softer plastic and I prefer those because it is easier to keep the top and bottom together when you pick up the case. The other MTM cases are in 38/357 and are about 20 years old. I also have some MTM slip top cases with this type of rigid plastic and they too have held up for about 20 years - I have not cracked or broken any so far - but again, all previous MTM cases in 38/357.

I have purchased 20 of ...

I have purchased 20 of these boxes and have not any of the problems some of the other buyers have. My 45 ACP bullets all fit perfectly and since I do not carry my fired brass in anything but an old Chivas Regal bottle bag, they don't get stuck in the case. I love how easy to deploy the ammo is with these, and will buy more because they also fit uniformly in my Military ammo cans.

I have over 3000 rounds ...

I have over 3000 rounds of 45ACP stored in these ammo boxes, and they are all perfect! I also have these ammo boxes for another caliber without any issues as well. These are very sturdy ammo boxes and will continue to purchase them for storing ammo.

I had been looking for a ...

I had been looking for a slip top box for .45 ACP. I was so happy to find this one I bought the last 5 in stock. Unfortunately, it was not what I expected. First, the plastic is hard, not soft like most ammo boxes. I worry that it will chip or crack from impacts and use. The real problem though is that the top does not grab the bottom of the box (because it is hard plastic). It just sits on top of it. I can pick up my .357 slip top boxes (soft plastic) by the top even fully loaded. I can't do this to these even empty. I wanted these boxes to throw in my duffle bag and go to the range. If I do that, I'll have a bag full of loose ammo. I'm sure I will be able to use them, just not the way I had intended.

I had the same problem as other reviewers; some of the holes are too small and cartridges either wont go in completely or get stuck. The product looks good but I wouldnt buy it without checking to see if MTM has retooled to fix the problem.

These .45 ammo boxes are ...

These .45 ammo boxes are my favorite. I've been using them for many years because they afford easy to access the rounds and I don't worry about a hinge breaking and loosing the cover.I know that MTM had a bad production run in the past in which some of the holes were undersized. As a result the rating for this product was downgraded. The new ones I just received are fine. In fact, the old ones I have with the undersized holes were modified by using a 7/16th drill to open up the clearance. Now they work fine.As far as the empty brass falling deep in the hole, why bother replacing empty brass, just throw them in a bag and save your self some extra steps.

I have not had any problem with loaded cases sticking but empty brass is shorter than hole depth and they do stick. Sooo, case is fine for loaded ammo but DO NOT put empty brass in them. I have used MTM slip top cases for 44 REM MAG for years and love them, just wish these were built the same way for 45 ACP

I like the sturdy plastic ...

I like the sturdy plastic and the lift off top that means there is no hinge to wear out. BUT like others have mentioned, the holes are very inconsistent; half don't allow cartridges to sit down. I have kept them around for a year hoping that they would magically correct themselves - hasn't happened.

I like these boxes! I use ...

I like these boxes! I use them for .40 S&W as well, and they work fine. I agree with the comments about the tops slipping off easily, so I use some heavy duty elastic bands I already had. I like to use plastic boxes, and find the hinged lids are more difficult to use at the range than slip-off. I shoot autos more than revolvers and like to dump a row or two into my hand. I also put spent brass in a bag. I have not tried them as a reloading tray as some reviewers seem to have done; but I wouldn't rate it down as they weren't designed for that (per MTM's website).I guess you choose your priority - easy for transport, or easy on the firing line. If you don't find the hinged lid to be in your way, then go with those instead.

I bought several of these ...

I bought several of these boxes and loved them, so I bought a few more. The second batch all exhibited the same problem noted in the previous review. Some of the holes were too small and the loaded rounds became wedged in the holes. I contacted MTM, who noted that they had not received any other similar complaints on this product. I assume they will soon enough.
