The Forster Collet-Style Bullet Puller grasps the bullet firmly and will not slip. In fact, the pull from the loading press actually tightens the grip on the bullet as it is removed. This reduces the chance of damage to the brass or bullet. The carefully constructed, solid steel collet is the feature that distinguishes this puller from others on the market. Having only used kinetic ...

Having only used kinetic bullet pullers before (which I have found are almost useless for .224 bullets), I was pleasantly surprised at the ease and speed with which the product enabled me to disassemble 200rds of .223's. I only ruined one case and one bullet, and that because of my failure to carefully read the directions - too eager to play with the new toy. Total time was about 30 min. (8-9 rds/min.) including set-up, as opposed to 1 rd/min with my kinetic puller (not including clean-up). It has already paid for itself with the first session! Buy one, a good tool and a good value.

Once you have your height set this works well. There are a few things I did not like though. First it is a screw style collet tightening. A competitor makes a nice lever style that is much faster to use. Second, as stated by another here, the collet is so far up in the thing that it is very difficult to tell where the bullet is to get a hold of it (which is really important with 224 cal bullets). This would benefit from some view holes or something along those lines cut into it. Once you get the right height, it works well but I'd never want to be switching calibers with it.

This makes bullet extraction easy when set to the correct height. Finding the set height isn't easy in my opinion. The thing that seems to irritate me the most about this die design is the inserting of a .45 caliber flat nosed round. It seems to further seat the bullet when missing the inner bore diameter. Rounds seem to hit the machined collar around the bore mouth that in my opinion should be radial-used or tapered. However this product is very affordable compared to others. The collets seem to cover a broader range of calibers to. This saves money for those who reload various calibers. I feel it is good at best because of the throat mouth of the die. A taper or radial-used throat modification would bring 5 stars. It seems best at pulling round nose bullets.

Pretty hard to like this ...

Pretty hard to like this bullet puller. It does not work very well on "slender ogive" bullets (like .223) and does not work at all on truncated cone shapes, like the .40. Also, each caliber takes a different collet, which translates to another $10.79 plus shipping and another week in the mail.

Didn't get the "feel" of ...

Didn't get the "feel" of it right away. The trouble with the one that I bought from Forster is that the thumb screw supplied was just a whisker too long to fit into the die slot. This is absolutely critically as it's supposed to act as a rotational stop. I had to grind it down a bit to get it to fit. Then it took a long time to figure out how it was supposed to work as no instructions are provided. It was only afterwards that I searched YouTube for a video that I got a handle on it. It's difficult to sense how much to tighten the wrench in order to grab the bullet. Too much and the bullet will become lodged. I think that with some practice, I could recover a bullet, but I plan to be real careful reloading so I don't have to recover anything.

Not impressed with this ...

Not impressed with this product. Difficult to adequately tighten collet to grip bullet. Can't see bullet position in collet. Other similar tools I have used in the past have been much more effective. Going to work with it for a while longer and will update if my opinion changes.

I am going to upgrade my ...

I am going to upgrade my review from 2 stars to 4. Foster did call back and are replacing the broken 6.5 by 55 collet. I did get the system working (finally) and now am doing great. What was going on was the collet wasn't releasing. I was pulling old 3006 so I cut a case in half and use it to pop the collet up releasing the bullet. After about 4 times it started releasing on its own. Its working quite well now.

Don't waste your money on ...

Don't waste your money on this. Poor design, poorly made. The handle on top does not slide back and forth, it does not clear the handle on my Rock Chucker, so I have to drop my press handle to unscrew it, and I have to unscrew it all the way every time because every bullet sticks in the collet, which means after I unscrew the collet screw and remove it, I have to take a punch and knock the bullet out, which means every bullet is ruined. I tried polishing the collet, inside and out, made no difference, tried every way to set it, every nuance, nothing worked. Buy anything but this, or just use pliers, same results, less frustration.

I am pretty dissatisfied ...

I am pretty dissatisfied with this product. It has failed to release the bullets regardless of 6.5, 308, and 311. I tried to spread the 6.5 slightly and it broke. I have emailed Forster and will note their response and how they handle this issue.

I had to modify this ...

I had to modify this puller to get it to work well. The handle broke off as I had to use a small cheater pipe to tighten the collet enough to pull some bullets, so had to weld it back on. Then bullets would not release reliably so had to disassemble each time to push bullet out. Finally drilled a hole down through the threaded ram so I could use a rod to push the bullet out without removing the ram. Once these mods were done, it worked well.

Used correctly, this product does an adequate and fast job of pulling bullets. The solution for bullets that get stuck in the collet and do not fall out when the puller handle is loosened is to take a short piece of dowel and place it between the ram and the bottom of the bullet and rap the ram handle down sharply. This is usually sufficient to raise the collet and release the bullet. Sometimes a little jiggling or tapping of the press is required to make the bullet fall out.Do not make the mistake of allowing the neck of the cartridge to get into the collet. It can be quite difficult to remove even with the puller disassembled.

I purchased this item last week to dismantle some .308 cartridges. It did leave scratches on some of the bullets and the bullets almost never drop free from the puller when tension is released. I have to insert a probe into the bottom of the die to push the collet up so that the bullet will then fall free. Still, better than an impact puller.
