I have loved the KhuKri blades since the 70's, I saw this for sale from Cold Steel, and said "Done Deal". Overall I would say it is a bit rough. Edge definetly needed work. But if you watch the Cold Steel video and learn how to swing this properly. WATCH OUT!!! Mine is outstanding with the edge cleaned up. I use it regularly for limbs and tree pruning. To date I havent seen a 3/4 inch limb it wont sever. UGLY yes, not the best construction yes, Functionality outstanding, performance vesus price Incredibly. If you want a better one. Cold steel does sell one comparable to the originals--just pony up $300. This is an outstanding tool for the price.

For my use it works well, though expect it to come in the mail as a blunt object. With some work I got it sharp and it is great for clearing small branches of downed trees and for its price I was impressed that it stood up to battening through oak with the right amount of persuasion. For this use in backpacking it is fairly durable, won't rust out as long as the black coating lasts, and I found the thin blade is light to carry while I can still span across what I consider to be medium logs for battening. For the price and given utility I give it a 4.

Great blade and the price are really low for the quality. The only downside I had was mine didn't come sharpened at all.

I bought one of these for fishing trips, just because its small, durable and can handle a beating. The edge that came on it was horrible, I ended up making my own edge on it and it works great. Its nice to be wondering through the wilderness and cutting small vines and smaller trees out of the way. Ive used it as a work horse and it still is holding up. Very strong and cheap for the price.

I agree with Levi that the Ka-bar is a better kukri. It has a weight advangage over the cold steel. I can chop down small trees when the cold steel can only get through the bark. But you can swing the cold steel faster so it's good on small things. For the price I got both to try them out and use the cold steel as a beater/loaner.

Decently made, but the hump on the back of the handle was uncomfortable, so I ground it off. Shorter than a 'real' machete, it packs better BUT doesn't cut quite as well. For occasional use in a pack, great. For all day use, get an 18" machete for brush clearing. This knife is decently made for the price; I can't see where the K-bar version of this knife would be a whole lot better. Physics work against a short blade out chopping a longer one.

You barely get what you pay for. Feels flimsy, handle is not very comfortable, edge looks like it was done on an industrial grinder by a blind guy, the steel tip was literally was bent at a 90* right on the end, the sheath doesn't fit right. Otherwise it's great! I thought I'd get a cheap version of the KA-BAR Kukri, and it's definitely cheap. There's absolutely no cutting edge on it, but you could cut yourself with the burrs. I think it might sharpen up decently, but we'll see. Go with the KA-BAR, I love mine.
