Product Information

Lyman has recreated the legendary sight that the Lyman Gun Sight Company was founded on in 1878. Like the original, the #2 is constructed of blued steel and features height index marks on the aperture post, with maximum elevation of .800" for long range shooting. The #2 Tang Sight's greater sight radius means an inherent increase in accuracy. The #2 Tang Sight includes both a .093 diameter quick sighting hunting aperture and a .040 diameter Large Disk Target Aperture. Also included is a replacement rear stock screw and front tang screw. This Marlin version features a special adapter which allows mounting on the tang without damaging the serial number. Please Note: All Marlin lever actions will need to be drilled and tapped before mounting. This sight will not work on new rifles with a tang safety.

Good sight , but poor ...

Good sight , but poor quality control. Screws had bad threads. The adapter had the holes off center and the whole sight was not vertical. It leaned to the right , I checked it and it was the sight and not the rifle. I could have returned it but I fixed it in a couple of hours. Next sight will be a marbles.

Cheaply made. This is not ...

Cheaply made. This is not an exact copy of the original. Flimsy piece of junk. I put it on my 1895, it flew apart almost every time I pulled the trigger, now I am stuck with a hole drilled in the tang. It may be fine for Cowboy action reduced (light) loads, but not for standard loads. I would not recommend this sight if you need something reliable that holds zero. Find an original No. 2

I have two of these, one ...

I have two of these, one on my 1895 45-70 Cowboy and one on my model 39. I find them to be very useful in the silhouette matches that I shoot in. Sight settings are repeatable and consistent and easy to see, Especially if you paint the lines on the post with a little white or yellow paint.I find the Lyman better than the Marble in this regard, and it is much cheaper.However, be aware that there is no mechanical windage adjustment on this sight. The Only way to change windage are to either shim one side of the base to cant the rear sight or to move the front sight. It works best on guns with the front sights in a dovetail so that you can drift the front sight for windage adjustments. You can drill the tang your self, but unless you have a good quality drill press and a vise to hold the frame, you should probably have a gunsmith drill the hole for you. I boogered up the job on my 39A and had to put in several shims to make up for it. Still, if you are part of the 50-something crowd, you will find this sight will be a lot easier to shoot with than the stock sights--and its "cowboy" legal.

I bought this sight ...

I bought this sight because of the price. I should have bought the sight with a windage adjustment. It is nice but my front sight had to be moved farther than I liked. Next time I will go for the one with a windage adjustment. Pay a little more and get a lot more for the money.

I have this sight mounted ...

I have this sight mounted on a Marlin 336CB. It isn't adjustable for windage.....that is taken care of by drifting your front sight. Once that's done, elevation adjustments are easily done by turning the barrel on the tang sight itself. I find the Lyman sight adequate for the job, but I might consider the more expensive Marbles sight if I had it to do over again....it's adjustable for windage, as well. Would I consider changing over to the Marbles....no. Once you have the Lyman sight set for windage, the Marbles no longer has any advantage. The Lyman is a well made sight, and looks good to boot. Even though my 336cb has the serial number on the receiver, I opted for mounting the sight with the supplied adapter. Glad I did that, because the lowest elevation settings aren't useable anyway. With the adapter installed, the aperture doesn't have to be elevated as much......this means the sight, itself is less apt to be damaged by rough handling.

This is a fantastic sight ...

This is a fantastic sight for the price. It is a "copy" of the original tang sight produced by Lyman in 1880's and as such doesn't have a lot of fancy adjustments. For cowboy action and even for hunting, it's well worth the money. Keep in mind that a hole MUST be drilled in the tang for mounting. A small price to pay for such a nice addition.
