The Hornady Lock-N-Load Powder Measure Rifle Micrometer Metering Assembly is the perfect tool for the reloader looking to improve the function of their Hornady Lock-N-Load Powder Measure. The metering assembly features an micrometer dial adjustment for making very small adjustments, allowing you to dial in a precise powder charge. The etched marks allow you to easily dial in the exact powder charge in-between 10 grains up to 100 grains of powder and are very helpful when returning to your favorite load setting.

It works well if you don't touch it after you set it, which makes the purpose of micrometer useless.

There are two major problems.
1) Cannot lock in place due to the diameter of the stem smaller than it should be.

2)scale is difficult to read because of the reflection.

It works as advertised. The micrometer marks definitely make it easier to fine tune. I use mine on a LNL-AP, and it has worked well. It would be nice if there were something other than friction holding the setting, but I haven't actually had any problems with it moving. It also takes some time to figure out how much of a given powder is represented by the marks as this is different with each powder.

Chrome on Chrome...Can anyone see the numbers or lines? its impossible to see the markings. Drops 4 charges right on target then way too low, then way too high - never a dull moment with this piece of equipment.

As others have said, the markings are difficult to read and it cannot be locked in place. Those are the only downfalls to what is otherwise an amazing product. Install it, and don't ever remove it. From that point on, simply write down your readings, throw a few charges to double check and you should be dead on. It is also consistent down to pistol loads, allowing your standard rifle rotor and this rifle micrometer to work with loads as small as 3.4gn (that is simply the smallest I checked consistency with.) I drew several different charges 10 times each and every single one from a given load read exactly the same...so a variance of less than .1gn, which is the accuracy of my scale.

This is an improvement on the standard insert. Much easier to dial-in a load and especially useful if you load several different cartridges. However, the markings are ridiculously difficult to read, even using a flashlight. Also there is no way to lock the micrometer once it is set.

This micrometer saves lots and lots of time and easily pays for itself in a few loading sessions. Simply throw a charge, measure it and you almost instantly know the meter adjustment necessary to make for a perfect throw. This means 2 throws instead of 10+ are needed. Then record the meter reading for each powder and the next time you come back to it, you start off almost exactly where you want to be (of course, always check and recheck using a scale). HUGE TIME SAVER!

Very poor markings on the unit I received, barely visible, and only in perfect light at that. No lock either, like competitors products.I prefer the standard insert over this one.

Ditto what others have said -whenever using more than one powder, bullet, or caliber in your reloading setup, you can record the number on the dial and come back to it months or years later to ensure you have consistent loads. Otherwise you are stuck with counting the number of turns of the screw on the default meter which gets you close, but not as close as this. I for one am not a fan of their suggestion to buy more of the factory meters for every load just so I can have "exact" charges. I agree this should be standard equipment.
