I have kept a Cold Steel Special Forces shovel in my trunk the last few years in my car during Winter time in case I get stuck in snow. I've never had to use it for that, but I did try it out in dirt and it works well. It's also a lot stronger than you might first expect by looking at the picture. Pictures don't due them justice. The manufacturers video on their site will show you what it's capable of. As far as the sheath goes, it works well to protect other things from the sharp blade of the shovel as it comes almost as sharp as a knife. Save yourself shipping and hassle and take my advice and buy it with the shovel when you buy one. You won't be disappointed if you do. If you don't you'll find out just how sharp these shovels really are. When I got my package with the shovel, it had went through a military tech manual and was sticking out the side of the box! They are both awesome products!
