With its unique cross-member copper jacket design and a bonded front core, the A-Frame has become famous for its ability to combine 3 performance features - controlled expansion, deep penetration and 95% weight retention at all velocities. From tip to base, the A-Frame features a soft, semi-spitzer lead nose protects it against felt recoil while in the magazine. Next, the pure copper jacket begins to taper around the pure lead core at the tip of the bullet in an effort to help control the expansion rate at a wide range of velocities. The core towards the base of the bullet is where the momentum for the deep penetration comes from. The wrap-around jacket on the base of the bullet helps retain the bullet's original weight and prevent deformation. This is not loaded ammunition.

Per my earlier posting, used the same load of RL15 and Fed. primers--used it to take 3 cape buffalo in Zimbabwe. My PH stated he had never seen a softpoint completely pass through a buffalo in his 21 years of guiding. It is an incredible bullet. The ones we did recover had 90% plus retention.

Used this once again in ...

Used this once again in 2008 on a lion in Zimbabwe..the bullet stopped on the off side behind shoulder..shot a second time for an insurance shot--recovered both bullets..both retained over 90% of their weight. Have used these in all my African hunts and have had excellent results throughout.

Awesome bullet. Used this in a Remington 700 custom shop loaded with RL 15 with Fed. 215 primers--velocity 2445 fps. Load shot under 1" groups at 100 yards. While in Africa I shot an eland and warthog with the warthog facing me. The bullets that were recovered on both animals still weighed 394 grs and 396 respectively. Unbelievable weight retention and penetration. It penetrated the wart hog from tip to tail.

Perfect bullet. Use with ...

Perfect bullet. Use with RL-15 for Africa. Sub 1 MOA accuracy at max load and RL15 has almost no temperature sensitivity. I first used after I learned of it from 1990 AR article by Finn Aggard who tested all available bullets in .416 Rem Mag and got best results with SAF. I used it on 3 trips to Africa and took over 20 head of game including lion, buffalo, eland, giraffe, etc. The accuracy and weight retention are legendary and real, but I find the large and perfectly symmetrical mushroom at all ranges results in these bullets flying straight and deep INSIDE the target for 4 to 6 foot penetration, every time, even after smashing big bones, ending in large exit wounds. I have yet to recover an A-frame on any animal weighing less than 600 lbs. The few I have recovered look just like the photos in Swift's adds, every time. The lowest weight retention I experienced was 87% after passing through 1" thick shoulder blade of a Giraffe, all the rest were over 93%. SAF is worth every penny.

I have used this bullet ...

I have used this bullet as my first round on 6 Cape Buffalo, 2 of which dropped to the shot. Also dropped a large Eland bull with one shot using the A-Frame. I love the performance I get from the A-Frame .416rm (I also use it in my .300wm for all plains game, with fantastic results and an approx. 95% 1 shot kills). I have used others and never found anyhting so consistently good. I shoot sub-minute groups with it. Be sure to ONLY have your 1st round on buff be the A-Frame; everything else should be solids, of which I like the Barnes.
