My Springfield GI project ...

My Springfield GI project gun is a .45 but they use a dang .38 super Ti firing pin in them (and a standard firing pin does not fit...the firing pin hole is smaller) They do this to have as little mass as possible so they can pass the drop test to sell in California without adding a firing pin safety (which I hate in a 1911 so maybe this is a good if somewhat annoying trade-off) The springs are the same. Springfield and many others have + power firing pin springs that are longer than stock...this spring (Ed Brown) is standard length just a little more stout without being ridiculously "over-sprung" if that makes sense. I don't sweat the mythical "lock time" fairy for any real tangible performance difference...I don't shoot serious target matches though...my guns are working defensive tools so I use an Ed Brown .38 super firing pin (steel) and this spring in my Springfields that have this .38 super firing pin in a .45 fiasco. Drop right in and work fine...I trust steel better in working gun...I removed the factory firing pin and seriously heavy firing pin spring for the Ed Browns...no ill effects so far...I've been carrying this gun for a month every day. I usually use wolf or Wilson + power springs but tried this one since I had the ed brown pins coming...seems as good if not better for this situation. The smaller than stock .38 supper pin even in steel is lighter than stock so a ridiculously heavy firing pin spring isn't really going to be needed in my opinion. This one is definitely firmer than a stock spring...that's good enough for me in this case...in an all standard 1911 I might go with the Wilson or wolf...just my opinion...probably worth what you paid for it.
