I've tried both HKS and ...

I've tried both HKS and Safariland C-2 speedloaders with a Smith & Wesson Model 10.The HKS speedloaders work "fine" and cost less than Safariland speedloaders, but the Safariland C-2 speedloaders are simply faster and easier\simpler to use.With the HKS speedloader, you need to hold the knob with your thumb and index finger, align and insert the cartridges in the cylinder chambers, and twist the knob clockwise while simultaneously holding the cylinder steady with your other fingers (otherwise the cylinder will turn as you apply force to the knob, which can prevent the speedloader from releasing the cartridges due to lack of counter-resistance).With the Safariland C-2 speedloader, you hold the main body (you can use anywhere from just your thumb and index finger to all 5 fingers . . .), align the cartridges with the cylinder chambers, and press downward onto the cylinder until you hear a "click" and the cartridges are released.In my opinion, I think the Safariland C-2 speedloaders are the superior product and definitely worth the few extra dollars. Amazingly fast reloads can be performed with a revolver and a C-2 speedloader . . . with adequate practice, I believe the reload time would be more or less comparable with any given automatic (whether it has a heel-type magazine release or trigger-guard style magazine release), if not possibly faster!When your wheelgun goes empty, you can simply hit the cylinder release and swing it out with a flip of your wrist (using your index finger to tap it out in the motion if necessary), tap the ejector to clear out the empties, bring about the speedloader, align and push it again the cylinder, and let it freefall, then swing the cylinder back into locked battery.On a subjective note, I feel that the HKS speedloader is possibly more durable and solidly constructed for extremely long-term use, but I have not yet had my Safariland C-2 speedloaders fail on me yet despite reasonably moderate use . . .

Is the only speedloader I could find for my old style 669. I like the "just push" idea. For my S&W I have the HKS and you get the release problem mentioned in the second post.BUTI am only giving three stars because I do not feel the Safariland loader is as robust. It jammed up after the fourth use. I've checked for "dirt & boogers" and have found none. Cost was reasonable so I may try again, but it's on "probation." At this point in time, I would be very uncomfortable taking it into a possible/probable combat situation. Will repost after I pick up a new one and see if it does/does not do the same thing.

I bought these because I heard the Safariland speedloaders were superior to the HKS ones. Overall, the COMP-2 loader is probably slightly better than the HKS design. One thing that they need to do is include instructions with their product. Out of the box with no instructions, the operation is not intuitive and I thought mine may have been defective. A quick trip to Youtube and a few minutes later it was clear that it was working as intended.Once you learn how to use it, it works great. Pushing in on the speedloader is a much more natural motion than twisting an HKS one, especially since this means you don't have to hold the barrel still.

Best Speedloader a S&W Model 19 could ask for. Sometimes a little rough to get the speedloader loaded, but it puts 6 in the cylinder in nothing flat!

Best speedloader on the market. Just a couple of little hints: the cartridges are secured by their rims; the loader can be charged in the palm of your hand by simply keeping pressure on the ends of the bullets as you turn the locking knob. Also, when in use, DO NOT touch or use the locking knob...grasp the body of the loader, insert the cartridges into the cylinder and simply push slightly on the loader so that the ejector rod pushes against the retaining assembly and releases the cartridges.

Tested using a S&W 15-3 .38SP and a Dan Wesson 15-2 .357Mag:Like many others posting here, I was using HKS speedloaders before this (the comparable model is the HKS 10, if anybody is interested). The Safariland is much faster due to its release method - it drops cartridges when the face of the loader is pressed into the cylinder of the revolver with no manual input from the user, as opposed to the HKS which requires a knob to be twisted. The loader is compact and lightweight and I'm very happy with it.That said, it's not perfect. It's a little slower to load than the HKS. The HKS just requires you drop in your new rounds and turn the knob. With the Safariland, you must keep the cartridges steady, press in on the knob on the rear, and then turn it. Not a huge deal, but it is a tad slower. Second, the HKS demonstrates much nicer craftsmanship. Lines are clean, edges are sharp, and the aluminum feels great on it. The retaining star on the HKS is aluminum too, which is great. The Safariland, comparatively, is entirely plastic and there are a couple ugly marks left from its molding process. It's really not a big deal, but the slightly cheaper build quality and slower loading of the loader bump it down from a 5 to a 4 for me.

I bought one to see if it performed better than my HKS reloaders? It came with no directions. I had to go back and read customer reviews to get some idea on how to load it. Nothing I tried seemed to work. I finally managed to find a review that gave me a clue on how it loaded and so I tried it. With some difficulty it finally locked in the cartridges but then when I tried to load my S&W Model 64 it would not release the cartridges, regardless of how much force I applied to the knob. After several tries--pushes, and other techiques, I finally clamped the knob of the piece in my padded bench vise and took both hands to twist the body of the device in order to get it to release the cartridges. Well--I ended up getting the answer I was looking for. The HKS loaders may be a little slower and clumsier but they work! This Safariland loader. needs to go back to the drawing board or the QC department at the factory. It should never have left the plant without being checked out. So now I have a piece of scrap to throw out. It isn't worth the money to send it back. I wouldn't want a replacement. I gave it a one star rating because this software won't accept anything lower. I did intend to give it a big ZERO It deserves nothing more.

Maybe mine was defective but it simply would not grasp the tops of the brass. The second you turned the loader over (to put line it up with the cylinder) the cartridges just fell out on the floor, even after I double checked to make sure the top had been turned properly to hold the cases.

All the previous reviewers are right. Moon clips aside, these are the fastest speedloaders available. They're even easy to carry in pockets. I happen to like the simplicity of revolvers. These speedloaders give a shooter a little more firepower.

Excellent product. A lot easier to use then the 'twist' type speed loaders. Just line up the cartridges with the cylinder holes and press down. The speed loader automatically releases the shells and you are good to go. I will be buying at least 2 of these for all of my wheel guns. I will use nothing else after trying the Safariland speedloader.
