This is very old ...

This is very old technology. Any OS newer than Windows XP will NOT work interactively with the DPS 1200 or later models. I called Lyman and they informed me that they have no immediate plans to update the application to newer operating systems. Also, free-form data entry fields have very limited characters. Therefore suspect that the underlying application is quite dated.

I'm not a computer engineer but this product worked great on my dell laptop with windows xp. The data log and the transfer of data to the 1200dps3 is a real plus. This is a real time saver. If you load several calibers this is the way to go. Thanks Midway!

The idea is great, but I could never get it to work on any of my systems - and I'm a computer engineer! I think the software is outdated and needs to be recompiled/coded for Win2000 and WinXP.

I could not get this to ...

I could not get this to work with my 1200. I have an E-machine w/Win XP, and an old laptop w/Win 98. Neither one will communicate with the 1200. Lyman sent me another disc and hardware, but it would not work either. Just gave up on it. Product probably is good; I just can't get it to work w/my machines.

Midway has twice asked me to submit my review on the Lyman 1200-DPS II digital powder measure system. From the very start I have been very pleased with the unit, but I wanted to use it for a couple of months before forming my opinion.My impressions regarding the Lyman 1200-DPS II are all very positive. If you want to throw a lot of powder charges quickly then this unit isn't going to be used much. Last night, for instance, I loaded up 50 already sized and primed .223 Remington cases. After the 30-minute warm up period I sat down with the 1200-DPS II and timed the operation. Using 25.5-gr H335 the unit measured out the exact amount every 22-25 seconds. It took me 25 minutes to have all fifty cases filled. Using a volume powder drop dispenser and not trickling the final grains takes far less time. Extruded powders seem to take approximately the same general times as ball powders, even when charge weights are much higher like .243 and .308. The extruded powders seem to flow out faster. Using long stick extruded powders the 1200-DPS II is where this unit really performs because it is immune to metering issues!My .223 and .243 Winchester handloads have chrono'd Extreme Spreads under 50-fps and Standard Deviations under 20-fps. I have loaded 10mm Auto, .38/.357, and .45 ACP and I regularly see single digit SDs when I use the 1200-DPS II. It's a great machine when you want to bracket your charge weights while working up a load. I was trying to duplicate the velocity of a factory load 10mm Auto for a friend who wanted nearly identical practice ammo. I entered 9.2 and filled five cartridges, then seated and crimped and shot them over my chronograph which was set up in my yard. Too slow. So I entered 9.4 and made five more. Then tried 9.6 and was getting close. Finally dialed 9.8 and was finally where we wanted to be. I did all this (including shooting) in the span of only 15-20 minutes. I couldn't have tweaked with a drop-measure and beam scale any

The idea of a computer data base interface with the incredible Lyman 1200 DPS system is a good one. Unfortunately, the software program is not, in my opinion. The data fields are fixed in both position and length on the "page", there is no way to sort data by firearm and there is no way to add custom fields for say KO values or such. The page is not visible in one screen frame and layout which cannot be altered and is inconvenient. Too bad the same idea could not be applied using an Excel type data base allowing more flexibility and versatility. I removed the program from my computer. Though I find my DPS 1200 indispensible, I find the Interface Software Program disposable.
