For years, gunsmiths have turned to Loctite for securing screws and other threaded parts on their projects. Each formula has unique features that make it perfect for various applications around the shop. Purple Threadlocker (222) is for use on set screws, calibration screws, meters and gauges. This non-wicking formula is recommended for fasteners from #2 through 1/4" and cures in 10 minutes with full strength in 24 hours. Loctite makes a series of thread-locking compounds. These use primarily an expanding foam that "cures" once oxygen is denied. 222 is the world's best small-thread locker where hand-tool removal must still be possible. Threads MUST be oil-free to get the full strength thread-lock. Rubbing alcohol or a can of ether (starting fluid) will remove grease & oil residue to get a good lock. If you need to break down Loctite for easiest disassembly, simply heat it to 475 in an oven or with a heat gun. No good mechanic, handyman, or gunsmith should ever be without several types of Loctite.
