The Lee Carbide 3-Die Set is a great set of reloading dies for any reloader looking for a set of dies that will produce accurate ammunition for many years. Lee dies are made to exacting tolerances helping to create accurate ammunition every time they are used. Each Carbide 3-Die Set comes packaged with a carbide sizing die with decapping unit, powder through expanding die (used for expanding and belling the case mouth while charging the case with powder) and bullet seating die. Each die set comes packaged with the appropriate shellholder, powder dipper, load data sheet and plastic storage container. One of the great features of carbide dies is that they do not require the cases to be lubricated prior to use like non-carbide dies.

The .30 M1 carbine ...

The .30 M1 carbine cartridge is not like the standard straight-walled pistol cartridges that carbide dies are generally used for. The case wall is much thicker. For that reason, Lee recommends lightly lubricating every second or third case sized. I followed their recommendation and had no problems. You might be able to get away without any case lube, but it takes about the same amount of force on the press handle as full-length sizing a .223 round, so a little lube will probably help keep your brass from unnecessary stretching on the down stroke. I didn't try not using lube, so if you get a stuck case, don't blame me!The case neck flare die worked as expected and as long as you don't over do it, no crimp is necessary after bullet seating. The extra thickness of the .30 carbine case really holds the bullet well. I didn't have any problems with the bullet seater, and as I said, I didn't do any crimpingIf you have previous experience with Lee dies, you either like them or hate them. I use their carbide pistol dies and their rifle collet dies and am happy with most of them. Some people don't like the way the o-ring friction adjustments are set because of repeatablility, but overall, once you have them set up they're pretty reliable and easy to use.It may be worth checking other carbide .30 carbine dies to see if any case lube is necessary for them, or if it is just the Lee dies. I bought the carbide dies specifically so I wouldn't have to use case lube, so I was a little disappointed in that respect.

I purchased the Lee 3 die set of carbide dies for 30 carbine. When I began using them I noted that when using the full length resizing die that it was shaving the brass somewhere on or in the case. I kept finding brass shavings on the cases. I figured I could live with that. When I prepared to use the expander die the first case in came to a sudden stop. After withdrawing the case I found the case mouth bent. I took the expander die out, and upon examination found that it was stamped "Lee - 380". This led me to believe that a .380 caliber die had somehow gotten stuck in with the set I purchased and no one checked it or noticed it. I contacted Midway, and they asked me to send it back and it would be replaced with another set of dies. Hopefully the next set will be better! Waiting to see.

Item shipped in sturdy plastic container, easy to adjust , keeps settings without any problems. Carbide material makes reloading a breeze, coupled with the standards set by Lee Manufacturing, this is a pleasure to use.
Would buy again if they ever wear out, which I doubt. Carbide is the die material of my choice because it creates fewer problems for beginner & established reloader.

I have been whacking at 30 carbine in a Lee Loader for years and years. It was finally time to step to a press and this was the first set of dies to be loaded on it. Worked like a charm. Loaded 150+ in a couple hours and went smoothly. Highly recommend this.

Good set of dies. Case lube eases the sizing step. The shell holder could be just a tad tighter. The powder scoop is too big for my powder of choice. After seating the bullet no crimping is necessary unless you made the mistake of over flaring the case mouth. So I won't be using the separate Lee factory crimp die I bought.

Well for my money Lee dies are just as good as any other set of dies, I have been reloading for over 32 years and have never had a problem with Lee products. I did check other die companies and their carbide require case lub as well. I always resize with clean brass, just sorta always made since to me to do that. Taking in to account that you get a shell holder with the Lee dies, they are half the price of the more expensive dies sets. If you already have a 30 caliber factory crimp die, say for a 30-30 308 or 30-06 then you have the crimnp die for the 30 carbine. Its a 308, Lee's factory crimp dies are not length sinative and what ever the caliber crimp die will work for what ever the caliber bullet your reloading, and they are fast and easy to set up also.

I reload for my 1943 carbine and the dies work fine. I do lubricate about a third of the cases which seems to do the trick. The only downside was the shellholder as it would not hold a case upright. I replaced it with another brand and now have no problems with the cases tilting.

I now have several sets of Lee Dies. The finish was not quite as good as the carbide dies from RCBS but the price is less than half. The unbreakable decapping pin and the crimp die make it a best buy! Instructions are only mediocre and dies are not labeled (decap & size, expander, and bullet seat), but If you look at them its not hard to figure out - the decapping die has a decapping pin that sticks out, the expander, since Lee uses a "powder thru" expander is the one you can see all the way through, and the bullet seating die is the one that has a cupped, adjustable seating screw in it. If you get a 4-die set, the factory crimp die has a sliding sleeve (tube) that adjusts by the top screw.

The Lee M1 Carbine ...

The Lee M1 Carbine Carbide dies worked very well overall. The sizing die slid over the case very easily...even my oxidized cases. Bullet seating was consistent (using calipers to measure each of the first 50 rounds I loaded). I can't really tell if the crimp part of the bullet seating die is working or not. This is not something you can really see, but I have never had bullet setback while firing and I have never had the bullet come out of the case during handling. --Joel
