Most accurate 140grn bullet I've tried in my Rem 700 VSL in 260 Rem. And I've tried most of them. Sierra, Lapua, Speer, Berger, the other Hornadays. The rifle has a 1:9 twist and as long as the muzzle velocity is over 2700 fps ( book loads RL19 or IMR 4831) it will group under .5 at 100 yds, under .8 at 200 yds, the farthest I've shot it and I'm doing my part. I'm going to try this bullet and the IMR 4831 load at my club's 600 yd match in a couple of weeks. Wish me luck. Editor's Note: Good luck Allen!

This is the bullet I have ...

This is the bullet I have always wanted to shoot when I got a 6.5mm of some sort for LR antelope/deer hunting and LR target shooting/rock busting/steel banging, however I'm not totally impressed with this bullet out of my winny model 70 264 Win Mag w/ 9" twist so far. Ive tried Retumbo, H1000, H4831, Fed 215s, CCI 250s, and OALs that vary from .015" into the lands and as far off as .120" and I cannot for the life of me get it to shoot consistently day in and day out with any load. It will put 2 touching or within 1/2" with almost any and every load, but it will throw one out of the group every time anywhere from 1-2" and this is just totally unacceptable from a bench rest at 100 yards. I've got 2 loads that have shot 1/2 MOA one day (nice little triangle groups), and the next day they'll be 1 1/2 MOA. 90% of the loads I've tried have done the old 2 in 1 out syndrome which is driving me nuts and which has led me to try a few different powders, primers, and lengths. I've already went through 85 bullets, which is a lot more then it should take to find an accurate/consistent load with a target bullet and known powders/primers/lengths. I've got 15 bullets left in this box which is good for 5 more loads and if I dont find anything, then I'll start working on some 120g NBTs...

Very accurate bullet

I have not used this bullet on game but it shoots extremely well in a 112 year old 1896 mauser. 1/2 moa. Hornady states it is suitable for deer and light game. It is very long and streamlined and alot of the bullet protrudes into the powder space but this is not an issue in the 6.5 swede.

So far, the most accurate bullet in my Tikka T3 with 1-8" twist. I recently pillar bedded my Tikka and took her out to my local shooting range for a 100-600 yard test drive. These bullets traveling 2750 FPS produced a .275" group. These bullets are slightly more accurate than the Lapua's and, both bullets loaded exactly the same hit to the same P.O.I.Gotta love the A-MAX bullets. I know I do.

With a 1-9" twist Lilja barrel, my best group was .1" for 3 shots at 100 yards with H4350. Excellent bullet!

Best group I've ever ...

Best group I've ever fired yet was with this bullet. 200 yard three shot group .335" out of 6.5x284. (1-8 twist) That said it does not shoot all that great at 100 yards. I don't think it's properly stabilized till it travels a little farther. If you're not impressed at 100 don't give up on it. Hits out to 940 yards on steel targets are no problem. The A-max jacket is thin. Not my first choice for a hunting bullet, but at modest velocity or longer range where a tough bullet might not expand as well I think it'll work.

Great bullet -very accurate and reasonable cost. Easily shot 7/16"group at 100yds from my Howa 1500 6.5x55SE, which wears a boyds stock (not even glass bedded yet).

Though Hornady does not recommend this or any other A-Max for hunting, I have very conclusive evidence that it works very well as such. This year I took a very nice Whitetail buck from 300 yds in his bed. I took him front on and slightly downhill. The bullet killed him instantly, and I recovered it in front of the left hind quarter while cutting out the backstraps. It retained 53% of it's original weight!! The next week, I took a spike bull elk from 465 yds. dropping him in his tracks. This bullet was not recovered, as it passed through. This load shoots 1.165" groups at 300 yds from my custom Savage with a #4 contour barrel.

These actually have a sectional density of .287, measured average G1 b.c. of .595 and average about 18-20 inches penetration in ballistic gelatin tests. Including those with bone simulation materials, which take some of the bullet but the smaller frontal area keeps consistent penetration. They hold their own in competitions with the bullets that have slightly higher b.c. numbers, cost a lot less, and you can hunt small (coyote) to medium size (whitetail, mule deer) game with them reliably.

This bullet does it for me. It is not quite as accurate as the 140 Bergers in my 6.5x284, but I cannot make this bullet shoot "bad" in any of my 6.5 rifles. Any reasonable charge of any powder will shoot under .6 moa, as long as the bullet is into the lands about .025" or so. This is a very forgiving and consistent bullet in all of my 6.5mm rifles. And: ... it IS a game bullet. I have taken Mule Deer at ranges from 15 to 270 yards with this bullet. All were clean, one-shot kills. They all dropped in their tracks. Try this bullet. You will like it. Good Shooting, my friends.
