A high quality product but must be installed by a pro or real knowledgeable amateur as a circular notch must be milled on the back of the bolt using a .125 carbide cutter (I did not do this). The safety needs to cam back the cocking piece .015 - .020 inch from the trigger sear or the rifle will fire when the safety is released after the trigger is pulled -- have a good gunsmith install this item. I had to remove about .075 inch from the sear surface of the cocking piece probably because the gunsmith who installed the item removed an excessive amount from the cocking piece where the safety cam contacts it. Also the folks at Gentry who promptly responded to my email advised me to replace the firing pin spring with one rated at 24 lbs. I ordered a 24 lb, M98, Wolff spring from Midway.The folks at Gentry must be complimented for making a product that can be adapted to fit some zillion M98 rifles.

I recently purchased two of these to put on my own rifles. One, a custom GEW military 98 and an FN commercial 98. I was very impressed with the quality machining and finish Gentry provides. Plus, their already blued. I also liked the very positive positioning of the safety lever at safe and fire. Both safeties functioned perfectly after proper fitting. However, these type of safeties are rather difficult to install and should be fitted by a gunsmith. Grinding on the sear surface of the cocking piece may be required. Also, a circular notch must be machined in the back end of the bolt body with an .125 diameter carbide endmill. A spring loaded plunger in the safety engages the notch to lock the bolt while the safety is in the bolt lock position. Due to the tolerances and the many 98 variants, the safety plunger may be too long and need shortened, or in the case of my FN, be too short. I called Gentry and they sent a longer plunger to me at no charge. I would suggest the Gentry safety to my customers with complete confidence.

Bought one of these from another company as Midway didn't carry them at the time. Gunsmith installed on my 1909 Argentine action. Works like a charm and looks good too. Love the 3 positions. When clicking off the safety it is quiet with just a slight click heard. Animals shouldn't hear it unless they are standing on your toes. Will be buying another one soon from Midway as their service is the best.
