Militec-1 Synthetic Rust Preventative and Metal Conditioner is a synthetic metal conditioner used by our troops in harsh environments. This rust preventative and metal conditioner provides dry and constant lubrication that prevents jamming and foreign material build-up. Militec-1 bonds with the metal to inhibit corrosion and to make cleaning easier.

Notes:

Synthetic-based metal conditioner
Viscosity equal to SAE 10 weight oil
Contains no solids, PTFE, solvents, metals, parrafins and does not require agitation before use
Non-hazardous, non-toxic, non-combustible
Protects metal surfaces with a constant impregnated molecular bond, works within the molecular structure of metal and non-metallic firearm surfaces

Uses:

Rust and corrosion protection
Firearm lubrication

Application Instructions (per Militec-1):

Initial treatment, step one: when firearm is clean and dry, apply a light film to all surfaces including the bore. Burnish/polish Militec-1 into exterior surfaces by rubbing rapidly using a cloth lightly dampened with Militec-1. Sparingly apply drops into the action, concentrating on springs, moving parts and metal-to-metal contact areas. Apply to magazine interior and exterior. Leave a very light film of Militec-1 on all surfaces during reassembly.
Step two, firing: fire the firearm enough for it to reach operating temperatures. Militec-1 will continue to impregnate metal through the next two or three applications when the firearm is hot.
After complete applications, the firearm surfaces will be self-lubricating.
If exposure to dust, sand or extreme cold is encountered, wipe away any excess Militec-1. Firearm will continue to be lubricated.
For firearm storage, leave a light coating on all surfaces of the firearm.

Based on other reviews I bought this and gave it a try. What I look for in a lube is good overall protection which includes preserving the metal. Just for a little experiment I took three finishing nails and coated them with break free CLP, M Pro 7 and Militec 1. I then sprayed water on them. I did this again and then sprayed salt water on them. (simple mixture of table salt and water) then I took two nails as the control. One got sprayed with fresh water the other with salt water. I left it outside overnight. (I live in FL and it is hot and humid anyway) In less than 24 the break free showed little to no rust on either nail. The M Pro 7 also showed little to no rust on the freshwater and slight rust on the saltwater nail. The militec showed the worst rusting on both nails. The untreated nails showed rust on both more on the salt water nail. I did email the company before this and ask if I could use this as a conventional oil and they said yes. They said the curing process is for "cc and desert enviroments" This wasn't the most scientific test but I think it showed the capability of the oils tested. For the price of this oil I don't think it is worth the price. Also for what it is worth a guy I work with was in Iraq in a Ranger Battalion and I asked if he used Militec since those guys over there were getting free shipments of this stuff. he said he never heard of it and only used CLP. I asked how it was and if he had any problems with it. He was there from 03-05 and right from his mouth, NO, CLP worked fine. Take this for what it is worth, I just feel like I threw away $15.00.

I have nothing but praise for this amazing oil. While there other items out there that do a better job of cleaning your firearms overall, this is by far the best lubricant I have found in a bottle. As long as you follow the instructions it should give you amazing lubrication properties of your firearms. I have been using it on every one of my firearms, and have found it to do just what the manufacturer says it will. My firearms clean up fast and easier, and best of all, just work better. If you have a particularly dirty gun, just clean it as usual with your favorite cleaner and then apply this. I can't speak for anyone else but I have zero problems with rust or problems with this on the finish of any of my firearms. In my humble opinion it is by far the best lubricating system I have found so far.

I became interested when I realized Militec-1 is shipped with new Sig Sauer weapons. I put it to use by applying on an accurate but temperamental 1911 target piece. Applying then heating the surface as per the manufacturers instruction (less than 150 degrees) I treated the 1911 twice. Following range session proved a difference as out of 100 light SWC target loads there were no FTF or FTE. I now treat all of my semi autos with Militec-1 then grease or oil as normal. I believe this product works if one follows the recommended application procedure. As per the fellow shooter that was kind enough to share his rust preventative test results, I am curious what the result would be if applied properly using a heat source.

Militec-1 is the best lubricant I have ever used on any firearm. I have used this product for 7 years and it is on every gun I own. I initially used Militec on an old Remington 742 autoloading rifle that would frequently jam. After treatment, according to directions, this gun has never jammed again. I use it to treat the bore of every new rifle purchased and it is amazing how it prevents copper fouling. Used in the action of any firearm, you will notice increased smoothness in operation. The product goes on wet, yet when dry, you can still feel the slickness imparted to the metal. The result is a dry lubricant that does not attract dirt and will not gum up actions like a wet lube. Guns, barrels and actions clean much faster. Shotguns actions can just be wiped clean with a rag and you still notice the lubrication. One of the worst types of fine debris to clog an autoloading or pump gun is the dust and grim from pheasant hunting in CRP. The fine dust and plant particles can be wiped out quickly, leaving no gummed surfaces like a wet lube oil will cause. Overall, it works great, lasts a long time, and a small bottle will treat many guns. If you want cleaner bores, slick actions, easier cleanup, then you will be well pleased with this product. I give it my highest recommendation.
