Before threading a rifle's barrel, it is often wise to properly align the cutting die with the barrel's exterior. These thread alignment tools will keep the die perfectly positioned during the entire cutting process. Tools are specific to a certain thread pitch and bore diameter, and are available for most of today's popular military-style rifles.

Bought one to use with ...

Bought one to use with die to cut threads for Ar-15 flash-hiders after cutting barrel. I could not get the guide to thread easily into die. Eventually, I damaged the threads on the alignment tool. (My fault as I got impatient). It would still line the die up with the barrel; but barely. I bought another alignment tool and it was perfect. Threaded easily into die and works like it should. Note: Inspect the alignment tool carefully before using. I noted the threads on the alignment tool seemed flat before use and would not allow the die to screw onto the guide. I should have sent it back. The second one worked great.

I dropped off a .223 ...

I dropped off a .223 barrel with the Elk Castle gunsmith in Fort Worth, TX to have the muzzle threaded. I asked for a standard 1/2"-28 thread, but when I picked it up it wasnt compatible with several flash suppressors I brought with me to check his work. The gunsmith refused to fix the problem, so I ordered a thread die (215171) along with this alignment tool. The thread was way too shallow and I had to use a wrench to chase the threads, but with a few drops of oil and 2 or 3 minutes of turning, the threads were cut to the specification I requested and now all of my accessories fit. If the gunsmith had a set of these tools and reasonable ethics, it would have saved me the trouble. Too bad he won't stand behind his work. Luckily, Midway carries the tools I need when I need them.
