RCBS Small Base 2-Die sets are useful for reloaders loading for semi-automatic, pump action and lever action rifles to help ensure that proper functioning. Small base sizing dies size brass to minimum specifications and help to ensure that cartridges will chamber every time. Due to the fact that this product sizes more than regular dies, it is crucial to have a sufficient amount of high quality lubricant to prevent stuck cases.

Applies a roll crimp.

Small base sizer dies are usually required for reloading ammunition to be used in automatic, semi-automatic, pump, slide and some lever-action rifles.

These dies size the case somewhat smaller in diamter and also set the shoulder back slightly more than a Full-Length sizer die to ensure poper functioning in the actions of these rifles.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR AMMUNITION IN BOLT-ACTION RIFLES.

I have owned several of these dies both the small base and the regular full length sizer and they are really not the best choice for a high volume reloader. What ends up happening is the holder for the decapping pin starts to loosen after a few cases and if you dont pay close attention the decap pin will tip and hit the bottom of the case not going through the flash hole. When this happens you will do one of two things: 1. break the decapping pin or 2. bend the entire decapping rod. If you are a high volume reloader and plan to use these dies I highly recommend using a bit of blue locktite on the cap holding the decapping pin before you use and make sure the rod is screwed in tight and the lock nut at the top is screwed down tight as well otherwise this will cause the same problem.

I have had this die set for over a year. I am loading for my AR-15, and have had no jams. Recently I was having trouble with my decapping pin. I called customer service for help, and without hesitation they sent me two replacements for free. Great product, and RCBS has the friendliest most helpful customer service that I have ever dealt with. Great company!!

I had never had any problem when loading for bolt action rifles, but once I started loading for an AR-15, the shells would not chamber fully. I bought a set of small base dies after talking to several different people. After trying the small base dies I was very upset when these failed to chamber. I tried everything I could think of, I called DPMS and they just told me that reloads voided the warranty. I then purchased a Hornady headspace gauge set. The die bottomed out before I could get a reading on the brass. I ended up having to take off 0.010" to allow a little more adjustment. The die works fine know and after speaking to several top gunsmiths, and barrel companies they informed me that there is no need for a small base die if the rifle is chambered correctly. I hope this helps some people that may be having the same trouble that I did.

WELL I only had them for a week and already had to send mine back to RCBS. I kept getting lubed cases stuck in the sizer die. I got the Small base dies because of the recordation for semi automatics but my reloads will not chamber in my AR15. having said that RCBS customer service has been great and I'm changes to the full length set.

Resized brass will not ...

Resized brass will not chamber in my ARs. Chamber in the Mini 14's but not AR's. Double checked all headspaces, then got a set of LEE .223 dies, problem solved.. RCBS dies were not setting shoulder back far enough. Maybe an aberration but still very annoying.
